Arsenal take on a beleaguered looking Newcastle United outfit at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon and I’m fully expecting The Gunners to come out all guns blazing (excuse the pun), as they look to push their claims for a top four finish in the Premier League.
A recent run of three league matches without a win hasn’t done them any favours either following a heavy 3-1 defeat at home to Wenger’s arch-rival Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, which preceded back-to-back frustrating stalemates with Southampton and West Ham in games that Arsenal would have penned six points from.
Arsenal have been supreme at home though this season, and even though they lost last time out to United, the need is very obvious for all three points here, and in turn, further improve their excellent record of 7-0-1 21/7. Lacazette, Giroud, Sanchez and Walcott could all cause havoc here.
Visitors Newcastle United’s plight further deepened during the week when they lost 1-0 at home to former strugglers, Everton, whose manager Sam Allardyce, had the last laugh on The Magpies as his Toffees outfit returned back to merseyside with a very important three points.
It is now becoming abundantly clear that Newcastle’s manager, Rafa Benitez, possesses a Championship squad that is attempting to hold sway in the Premier League, and results are now starting to show their vulnerabilities following seven defeats from their last eight overall.
Newcastle are just one point above the bottom three, and with a poor away record of 1-2-5 7/14 which includes six games without a win on their travels, along with Shelvey’s sending off in the week, it could be a very long 90 minutes for The Magpies here.
