Arsenal recorded a vital 2-0 win away at AC Milan during the week in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16, which not only places them in the driving seat to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition, but also serves as a timely and much needed boost ahead of their clash with Watford in the Premier League this Sunday.
That win in Milan was highly unexpected, but it put an end to Arsenal’s miserable four match losing streak, and at The Emirates, Arsenal have suffered just two defeats on home turf all season, with a good record of 10-2-2 36/17.
Although The Gunners lost last time out to Manchester City, they’d previously put together a five match sequence without defeat which included wins over Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Everton, the latter two victories bringing a total of 9 goals for the hosts.
Watford currently occupy 10th place and now have a very comfortable nine point buffer between themselves and the bottom three ahead of their trip across the capital to face Arsenal this Sunday lunchtime.
Three wins from their last four have virtually secured The Hornets Premier League football for next season, following wins over Chelsea, Everton and West Brom, although all three of these recent and welcome wins were all registered at Vicarage Road.
By contrast, results away from home in recent times have been very poor as Watford have slumped to six defeats from their last seven on the road with defeats at Burnley, Crystal Palace, Brighton, Manchester City, Leicester City and West Ham.
An away record of 4-2-8 17/21 still requires further attention, but I don’t think they’ll improve this record away at Arsenal this afternoon.
