Preview: At the Emirates on Saturday, Arsenal are aiming to record successive Premier League home wins over Brighton for the first time. Both sides are coming off disappointing results; Arsenal a 3-0 loss at Crystal Palace which saw them drop to fifth and Brighton a 0-0 draw at home to Norwich which extended their winless run to seven.

Arsenal – Imperative Gunners return to winning ways?

Having seen their rivals from North London, Tottenham, usurp them in fourth with an emphatic victory last weekend, Arsenal embarked on the relatively short trip across the capital to Crystal Palace knowing they needed a response. It never came. Beaten 3-0 at Selhurst Park, they remained in fifth albeit only out of the Champions League places on goal difference, which took an almighty swing in the space of 24 hours.

The Gunners have now lost two of the last three in the Premier League, having lost only one of the previous eleven (W9 D1). A slight wobble or the start of something more profound? They were really poor on Monday night, outclassed despite creating some presentable chances of their own. To make matters worse, however, they are set to be without both first choice full-backs along with midfield enforcer Thomas Partey.

Key Stat: Only the Premier League’s top two of Man City (34) and Liverpool (39) have earned more points in their home matches this term than Arsenal (32 – W10 D2 L3), who had won three on the spin at the Emirates prior to losing 2-0 to Liverpool last time here.

Brighton – Seagulls already on the beach?

Dominance isn’t always rewarded in football, and this was undoubtedly the case for Brighton last time out against bottom side Norwich. A performance not lacking for endeavour yielded 60% possession and 31 shots on goal, the latter figure their highest ever in a Premier League fixture. Yet it was still only good enough for a point against statistically one of the worst sides to ever grace the Premier League.

On the plus side, the draw did at least bring an end to their six-match losing streak. They will also take heart from being back on the road this weekend. The Seagulls are without a goal for five straight home games but scored in seven of their last eight away from home. Graham Potter’s men even went unbeaten across the first six of these (W2 D4), before sustaining back-to-back away losses at Man Utd and Newcastle.

Key Stat: Last week’s 0-0 draw at home to Norwich City was Brighton’s 21st goalless draw in the Premier League since their promotion in 2017-18, that more than any other side in the competition.

Arsenal Vs Brighton Betting Advice

Anyone expecting Arsenal to immediately bounce back from the disappointing outcome at Crystal Palace by beating an out of form Brighton, should note that the Gunners have only managed three victories across their nine head-to-heads versus the Seagulls (D3 L3). Mikel Arteta is also having to contend with injuries to key players, leaving them short-handed for a fixture they drew 0-0 in Brighton earlier in the season.

Arsenal vs Brighton – Key Facts:

  • A 0-0 draw when the sides met earlier in the season saw Brighton extend their positive record against Arsenal, the latter having won only three of nine head-to-heads (D3 L3) in the Premier League.
  • Arsenal have lost two of their past three league games, having only lost one of their previous 11 (W9 D1). Failing to keep a clean sheet in five of the last seven.
  • Brighton extended their winless league run to seven games (D1 L6) last time. They have only failed to score in one of their last eight away Premier League fixtures though (W2 D4 L2).

Here at the Emirates meanwhile, Arsenal boast a mere 50% win rate against Brighton who were unbeaten in two visits (W1 D1) prior to last season’s 2-0 loss. Brighton’s current form is wretched (D1 L6). However they do tend to find the net on their travels, doing so in seven of the last eight. For Arsenal, who are without both first choice full-backs, it is two clean sheets in seven. So there is certainly an avenue for goals.
