Preview: In what is a must-win encounter for the home side, can Arsenal secure the three points needed to keep their slim chances of usurping Tottenham in the race for fourth place or will Everton make it a fourth consecutive head-to-head victory? The Toffees having earned a slender 1-0 win upon visiting Emirates Stadium last season.

Arsenal – Fans could end up voicing their displeasure?

Last Monday’s 2-0 loss at Newcastle means only a win will do for Arsenal in their pursuit of fourth place. Even then it may not prove enough should Tottenham avoid defeat, which they are 1/14 to achieve away to bottom of the table Norwich. Conversely, the Gunners are 4/11 to secure the result they need against opponents who have beaten them in each of the past three league meetings, including here last season.

It is patently obvious then that the odds are stacked against Mikel Arteta and his team, coming off back-to-back losses – both without scoring – to the upwardly-mobile Magpies and Tottenham. The atmosphere inside the Emirates may even turn toxic should news filter through of a Spurs goal or, worse still, their own team falls behind. Arsenal have lost 91% of the games in which they conceded first this season (W1 L10).

Key Stat: Arsenal are unbeaten in their final league game across each of the last 16 campaigns (W14 D2), winning the last ten in a row. They have won each of their last 12 final day fixtures when at home.

Everton – Toffees on a high after escaping sticky situation?

And relaaaax. Despite looking in a perilous state not all that long ago, some spirited performances under Frank Lampard has averted disaster. The club will be playing in the Premier League next season. Ten points out of the last fifteen has proved enough to fend off the threat of relegation, and there was an outpouring of relief upon hearing the final whistle of Thursday’s 3-2 comeback victory against Crystal Palace.

The Toffees can therefore approach this final outing in a relaxed manner, free from anxiety. A fourth successive win over Arsenal could even see them gain a position, with 15th-placed Southampton a point better off. That might be asking a little too much of a side with the second-worst away record in the division (W2 D4 L14) – though four points from the last two said fixtures hints at improvement in this area.

Key Stat: Everton have lost their final league game in four of the previous five seasons (D1), conceding at least three goals in each of these defeats.

Arsenal Vs Everton Betting Advice

After successive defeats, Arsenal know they simply have to beat Everton and hope for a massive favour from Norwich to sneak back into the top-four. However, just upholding their end of the bargain might be tricky enough. Defeat to Newcastle last time may not have been the knockout blow for Mikel Arteta and his players, but it has knocked the stuffing out of them. Can their home form once again come to their rescue?

Arsenal Vs Everton – Key Facts:

  • After a 2-1 scoreline at Goodison Park in December earned Everton their third successive league win over Arsenal, the Toffees now have the opportunity to win four league meetings in a row for the first time in almost a century (last achieved in 1924).
  • Arsenal have lost their past two Premier League games and are facing an Everton team who are finishing strongly. Frank Lampard’s Toffees have only lost one of their last five games (W3 D1).
  • Richarlison is the form player on either team. The Brazilian has netted in three of his last five appearances, although has scored away from home since grabbing a brace in his side’s 3-2 loss at Burnley on 6 April.

Arsenal have won 12 of 18 home league games this term, the fourth-best return in the division, including five of the last seven. They could only edge out Leeds in the latest, though, while before that Man Utd were the better team despite losing 3-1. Meanwhile, Everton arrive on a high after avoiding relegation. The visitors are also in form, losing one of the last five matches and taken four points from their past two away games.
