Arsenal Preview – Can Arteta’s troops win at Wembley again?

Arsenal had a Premier League season to forget last time around, winning just 14 times and collecting a mere 56 points. The Gunners suffered ten defeats as they finished in a lowly eighth place.

After returning to action from the enforced break with back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion, the Londoners got their act together and went on to win eight of the following 11 league and cup matches.

Our betting prediction:
Liverpool to win to nil

Arsenal are the record FA Cup winners, with the Gunners adding a 14th to their trophy cabinet at the end of last season. Before playing Chelsea in the final in August, Arteta’s boys beat Leeds United, Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Sheffield United and Man City.

Arsenal went a goal behind early on against London rivals Chelsea in the Wembley Stadium final, but the excellent Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted either side of half-time to give the Gunners a 2-1 win. Aubameyang also scored a brace in Arsenal’s semi-final victory over City.

Of course, Arsenal are the underdogs against Premier League champions Liverpool, who were so dominant last term, but the Gunners have enjoyed their recent visits to Wembley. Can they lift the Community Shield this weekend?

Liverpool Preview – Klopp’s boys to start 2020-21 season with some silverware?

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are fresh off the back of a ground-breaking season in the Premier League. The Reds ended a 30-year wait for the English title in stunning style last term. The Merseyside giants won 32 of 38 league matches, dropping just 15 points all season.

Liverpool also won the UEFA Super Cup at the start of the campaign, while they were FIFA Club World Cup winners in the middle of the season. The Reds took their foot off the gas after sewing up the title, but they did beat Chelsea 5-3 at Anfield and Newcastle United 3-1 at St James’ Park in their final two fixtures.

Despite such a forceful campaign last season, Liverpool are second favourites behind Man City to win the Premier League before a ball has been kicked this term. The league title and UEFA Champions League will take priority, but the Reds will want to win everything on offer this season.

Liverpool are the clear favourites to lift the Community Shield at Wembley this weekend, with the bookies pricing the Reds at just 13/20 to win in the 90. A year after losing on penalties to Man City, can the Reds get the job done in the capital this time?

Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Advice

Arsenal and Liverpool played out three thrillers last season. Back in August, Mohamed Salah netted twice to help the Reds a 3-1 home win. However, Arsenal returned the favour with a 2-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium in July. Sandwiched in between was an enthralling 5-5 draw in the Carabao Cup back in October, which Liverpool went on to win on penalties.

Key Facts – Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Tip

  • There were a staggering 17 goals in the three meetings between the pair last term
  • Arsenal have won just one of their previous 11 league and cup matches with the Reds
  • Liverpool finished 43 points ahead of Arsenal in last season’s Premier League

These two English giants are among the most successful sides in Community Shield history. The Gunners and Reds have both won 15 Shields, with only Manchester United winning more (21) to date. Liverpool have not won this game since 2006, though, while the Gunners’ last victory came in 2017.

Liverpool will be hoping to pick up from where they left off, and Klopp’s men should be too strong for Arteta’s team at Wembley on Saturday. Put some money on Liverpool to win -1 at 8/5.

Since arriving at Anfield, Mo Salah has scored five times in fixtures against Arsenal. We are backing the Egyptian ace to open the scoring (10/3) at Wembley this weekend.
