They have now conceded in one of their previous five matches in the competition, that being Boxing Day’s 6-3 demolition of Leicester City at the Etihad.
Yet for side which had plundered 17 goals across three prior outings, to score only once was something of a collector’s item. City now hold a commanding eight-point advantage over second-place Chelsea, who host third-place Liverpool later in the weekend. So it is a deficit that could widen further still – especially as they enjoy facing the Gunners, winning the last nine league meetings by an aggregate score of 22-2.
