Arsenal – Fresh and raring to go in search of fifth straight league win?

Owing to their fixture with Wolves being postponed, it will have been exactly seven days since Arsenal were last seen putting five past a hapless Norwich City at Carrow Road on Boxing Day. This compares favourably with their next opponents, who were in action less than 72 hours prior to kick-off at the Emirates on Sunday. This, coupled with some rich form, suggests the Gunners could be about to end their miserable run in this fixture.

Arsenal haven’t beaten Man City in a league encounter since a 2-1 win in December 2015 in North London, losing eleven of thirteen subsequent meetings. However, this is a team enjoying the best form in the top-flight – after Man City, of course – winning the last four games against Leeds, Southampton, West Ham and Norwich. While only one team – Man City of course – have earned more points at home this term (W7 D1 L1).

Key Stat: Since losing 2-0 to Chelsea in their first Premier League home game of 2021-22, Arsenal have remained unbeaten at the Emirates and will be looking to make it six consecutive wins in front of their fans (the last four achieved ‘to nil’) on Sunday.

Manchester City – Runaway leaders seeking eleventh successive victory?

Wednesday night’s result at Brentford maintained the league leaders excellent form heading into the New Year. Phil Foden marked his return to the side with the game’s only goal as Man City recorded league win number ten in a row with their eleventh win to nil of 2021-22. They have now conceded in one of their previous five matches in the competition, that being Boxing Day’s 6-3 demolition of Leicester City at the Etihad.

Yet for side which had plundered 17 goals across three prior outings, to score only once was something of a collector’s item. City now hold a commanding eight-point advantage over second-place Chelsea, who host third-place Liverpool later in the weekend. So it is a deficit that could widen further still – especially as they enjoy facing the Gunners, winning the last nine league meetings by an aggregate score of 22-2.

Key Stat: The midweek 1-0 win over Brentford means it has been nine Premier League away games without defeat (W6 D8) – winning the last six such matches consecutively – since Man City were beaten 1-0 at Tottenham in their opening fixture of the season.

Arsenal Vs Manchester City Betting Advice

What is so often a gimme fixture for Man City is suddenly anything but. Pep Guardiola’s men have shown no mercy when facing the Gunners, with City currently on a nine-match winning streak in Premier League meetings going back to 2017. Unsurprisingly they are favourites to preserve that run having reeled off ten straight victories in the competition with Wednesday’s hard-fought 1-0 success at Brentford.

Arsenal Vs Man City – Key Facts:

  • No teams in the Premier League are on longer winning runs right now than Arsenal (four; three ‘to nil’) and Man City (ten; six ‘to nil’).
  • Arsenal are aiming to make it six straight home wins in the league but are coming up against a Man City side which has eight wins from the last nine away league games.
  • None of the previous five league meetings between these sides saw both teams get among the goals, while only one of the past eight produced Both Teams to Score.

For the first time in a long while though, Arsenal seem well-equipped to compete. The Gunners are coming off four consecutive wins having won all of the past five here at the Emirates. Four of these saw them maintain their clean sheet. So with Leicester being the only team of the last five to have faced Man City which scored, a fixture which seldom sees both teams score (none of the last five, one of last eight) might end with an all-too familiar look to it.
