Arsenal Preview – Gunners can go big on long-awaited return home?

Successive victories for Arsenal (9th – W10 D13 L8) – one in the league, beating Southampton 2-0 at St Mary’s, while the other coming in the FA Cup as they progressed onto the semi-finals at Sheffield United’s expense – should ease some of the frustration that had mounted after losing their first two league games following the Premier League resumption. Next up, as they bid for a hat-trick of wins, should be a straightforward assignment.

Bottom club Norwich await at the Emirates for Mikel Arteta’s side, who will surely have grown in confidence following back-to-back successes. The most recent of those at Bramall Lane on Sunday as goals from Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos sealed a gritty 2-1 victory over Sheffield United. That their fourth away match on the spin, so it will be of some relief to be back playing in North London again for the first time since March.

West Ham were the last visitors to the Emirates, with their 1-0 defeat signalling a third consecutive home win for the Gunners, who haven’t lost a Premier League home game since a 2-1 scoreline against Chelsea on 29 December. Four wins in five said matches followed, three of which were without conceding, while they were only denied a full house when Sheffield United came from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw.

Norwich City Preview – Canaries now need a miracle to survive?

These remaining eight games are essentially a stay of execution for Norwich (20th – W5 D6 L20) now as survival becomes ever more improbable with every passing game. Six points stand between them and safety, and while that is by no means insurmountable, expecting a team which has strung together five wins all season to make that deficit up is asking an awful lot. Especially as there are some tough fixtures still to come.

To be brutally honest, any fixture must seem tough for a side in such woeful form. Last Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Everton made it one win and six defeats from their last eight league games (W1 D1 L6), having scored only twice during this spell. The self-belief has long since ebbed away. Saturday’s performance against a much-changed Man Utd side in the FA Cup was gutsy but little more than a valiant loss in the end.

Norwich were forced to play extra-time in that game, and with a man less following Timm Klose’s late dismissal. That meant even more effort expended by those still out there, as United penned them inside their own half for much of the additional period. It will likely spark mass changes for this game, as a potentially weary Norwich take their dismal away record to a ground they’ve won only once at in eight previous visits (W1 D2 L5).

Arsenal Vs Norwich City Betting Advice

A rejuvenated Arsenal, boasting a rested Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, should make light work of not only the league’s worst team but the worst travellers, with Norwich posting the poorest away figures for wins (1), points (6) and goals scored (6) of anyone. Meanwhile Arsenal have posted four wins from their last five home fixtures, winning the last three in a row. It should be a simple home win in principle.

Arsenal Vs Norwich – Key Facts

  • Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are unbeaten in five Premier League home games (W4 D1), winning each of their last three fixtures in North London.
  • Daniel Farke’s Norwich, meanwhile, have won only once on the road all season (W1 D3 L11 having failed to even score on five of their past six away league outings.
  • On eight previous visits to Arsenal in the Premier League era, only once, way back in 1992, did Norwich come away with a win (W1 D2 L5).

Finding faith in the Arsenal backline has often proved a fruitless task at times, however three of their recent four home wins were accompanied with a clean sheet. Factor in Norwich’s scoring woes, failing to net in 10 of their 15 away outings this season, and all of a sudden a home win to nil (6/4 BetVictor) becomes enticing. Norwich will feel they have nothing to lose now, though, and so might throw caution to the wind.
