Arsenal Preview – Can Arsenal build under Arteta?
A recent 2-0 home win against Manchester United along with a 1-1 draw away at Crystal Palace should give Arsenal a much-needed boost of confidence ahead of this Saturday’s 3pm kick-off against Sheffield United as the hosts look to start climbing the Premier League table.
The fact that this is a 3pm kick-off at the Emirates Stadium could prove to be a significant factor in determining the outcome of this clash as Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 21 home matches that have been 3pm starts in the Premier League, although the win over Manchester United halted a previous 3-match losing streak.
Arsenal’s overall home record reads a rather tentative looking 4-4-3 17/17 which includes just 1 win out of their last 7 matches on home turf, and they’ll also be without the services of their leading goalscorer, Aubameyang (14 goals) due to his sending off against Crystal Palace.
Recent defeats to Brighton, Manchester City and Chelsea along with the loss of Aubameyang may put a spanner in the works for The Gunners here.
Sheffield United Preview – Can Sheffield Utd win three on trot?
A 2-1 home win against National League outfit AFC Fylde in the third round of the FA Cup was followed by a 1-0 home win against West Ham in last weekend’s Premier League, so Sheffield United will make their way down to London to face Arsenal in confident mood and looking for a third win on the trot.
Recent results overall have been a mixed bag with wins against Brighton and West Ham but The Blades have also suffered understandable defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool, so they won’t be too downhearted by these losses.
The matter in hand of clawing their way back into the top five though resumes this Saturday against Arsenal, and the Blades still possess a reasonable looking away record of 3-6-2 11/11 considering they’ve had to play the top two teams in the Premier League on the trot away from home in recent times.
Notable points picked up on the road at the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Wolves along with wins at Norwich City and Brighton should give them belief of getting something from this outing.
