Arsenal – Five in a row for Aubameyang at the Emirates?

The Gunners resurgence continues to gather pace under Mikel Arteta, who not that long ago was facing calls from a significant portion of the fan base to leave his role as first-team manager. Victory at Leicester last Saturday, however, extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine (W7 D2), going from last in the table up into fifth on the back of five wins and two draws in their past seven league games.

Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of that recent win over the Foxes was not the result itself but the manner of the performance. It was a fourth league game in five scoring at least twice. A fourth successive home game in which Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found the back of the net. And a fourth clean sheet in seven, conceding five fewer across this period (4) than in their opening three league outings.

Everything is gradually coming together and most of the credit should go to Arteta, especially after such a rough start to the campaign. Their phenomenal record against newly promoted sides, in particular in North London, also bodes well for another positive outcome on Sunday. The Gunners haven’t lost a Premier League home game versus a newly promoted side since 2011, winning 26 of 31 subsequent matches.

Watford – Hornets a better outfit on their travels?

Defeat last time out to Southampton, going down 1-0, meant a fourth successive league game without a win at Vicarage Road for Wartford, picking up one point from twelve in front of their own fans since opening the 2021-22 season with a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa. Fortunately for the Hornets, they are out on the road this coming weekend, which is where the bulk of their points this season (6/10) have been earned.

Watford head to North London reasonably satisfied with their efforts thus far. To be sat 16th, three points above the relegation positions, is probably more than most fans expected. However, their inability to keep a clean sheet remains an issue, with that now none recorded in their last 21 top-flight fixtures. Conceding in all ten league games this term, including eight in just three games under their new boss.

Claudio Ranieri’s three-game reign in Hertfordshire has ebbed from the disastrous to the ridiculous, following up a 5-0 loss at home to Liverpool with a 5-2 win at Everton in their sole away game under the Italian. They could have been on the end of another hiding had Saints been more clinical last week. And with six defeats in seven previous Premier League visits to Arsenal, Ranieri looks to have his work cut out once again.

Arsenal vs Watford Betting Advice

Five wins from their last seven Premier League games. Unbeaten across their previous nine matches in all competitions. Arsenal deservedly begin as firm favourites to dispatch Watford at the Emirates on Sunday even before taking into account their exceptional record in this particular fixture. The Gunners having won 11 of the 14 prior meetings in this competition, including six of the seven been held in North London.

Arsenal Vs Watford – Key Facts:

  • Mikel Arteta’s men are among the Premier League’s form sides, winning five of their last seven league games (D2) to climb up to fifth in the table.
  • As for Watford, they continue to be unpredictable even under new management. The Hornets fell to 16th after a third defeat in four league games last time out.
  • Arsenal have kept two clean sheets in their last 13 Premier League home games, while their only shutout in five attempts at the Emirates in 2021-22 came against Norwich.

Assuming Arsenal do indeed continue their strong recent form and make it three straight league wins for the second time this season, we need to find a way of extracting value from their prohibitive odds. Betfair’s Bet Builder comes in handy here. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored in his last four home appearances, while Arsenal’s only clean sheet in five home outings this season was against bottom side Norwich.
