Arsenal – Gunners determined to consolidate fourth spot?

Mikel Arteta went with a largely unchanged side to that which won so handsomely at Leeds in the previous league outing for Boxing Day’s visit to Norwich, and was rewarded with another emphatic victory. The three points were all important but the 5-0 scoreline marked their biggest of the season so far as Arsenal ran rampant against the division’s bottom side, recording league win number four in a row in the process.

As such the welcoming brigade at the Emirates should be in high spirits. It helps that the Gunners have been in tremendous form here in North London all season – only Man City have picked up more points at home this season – but particularly of late. Arsenal have won each of the last five Premier League home matches, scoring 11 and conceding once, and are unbeaten since losing to Chelsea in August.

Key Stat: Midfielder Emile Smith Rowe added the gloss to proceedings as Arsenal romped to a 5-0 victory at Norwich last time, becoming only the second Arsenal player to score in three consecutive Premier League fixtures as a substitute.

Wolves – Visitors boast best defence outside the top three?

Only bottom side Norwich are scoring with less regularity this season than Wolves, who must have watched on ominously as Tuesday’s opponents Arsenal comprehensively brushed aside the Canaries on Boxing Day. They did so from the comfort of their own homes following the FA’s decision to postpone their post-Christmas day fixture against Watford, which should have at least helped replenished energy levels.

A refreshed Wanderers head to the capital still eighth in the table but having won once in their last six games (D3 L2). That was the nervy 1-0 scoreline away to a Brighton side on the longest winless run in the top-flight. Entertainment has also been light. There have been just four goals across Wolves’ previous eight league games, registering five clean sheets in this period but mustering just two goals of their own making.

Key Stat: None of the past nine Premier League matches involving Wolves produced Both Teams To Score, with just four out of 18 league fixtures completed this season seeing Bruno Lage’s men score but also concede.

Arsenal Vs Wolves Betting Advice

If an in form Arsenal, seeking to extend their winning league run to five matches, encountered no resistance whatsoever last time out against bottom of the table Norwich, they can surely expect a more rigorous examination here. Opponents Wolves are quietly having an excellent season under Bruno Lage, and in recent weeks produced commendable efforts versus Chelsea (0-0), Liverpool and Man City (lost both 1-0).

Arsenal Vs Wolves – Key Facts:

  • Although Arsenal arrive in vastly superior form (four straight league wins to one win in six for the visitors), it was Wolves who prevailed home and away, both times by a 2-1 scoreline, when the sides clashed last season.
  • Arsenal are unbeaten in eight Premier League home games, winning each of the last five with the last four of those seeing them keep a clean sheet.
  • There hasn’t been more than a single goal scored across all of the past eight league games involving Wolves, who have kept five clean sheets in this spell.

That is now 14 goals scored in the last four league outings from Arsenal. Considering neither of the top three put more than one past Wolves, though, we should expect a more modest outcome here. The visitors arrive on the back of five clean sheets in eight and with none of their past nine league games seeing both team score – which is how all but two of eight Arsenal home league games this season panned out.
