Preview: A feisty affair between the sides three weeks earlier only adds to the level of intrigue ahead of this rescheduled meeting at Emirates Stadium. Arsenal boast the third best home record in the Premier League in 2021-22 but have their work cut out preventing an in-form Wolves from winning a fifth consecutive away league game.

Arsenal – Gunners back firing again?

Victory at home to Brentford on Saturday saw Arsenal exact revenge for their 2-0 loss at Brentford Community Stadium on the opening night of this season. Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe are billed as the future of this team and it was the prodigious duo who struck for their seventh and ninth league goals of the campaign, in a 2-1 win that keeps Mikel Arteta’s men four points off fourth with three games in hand.

Advantage Arsenal then in the battle for Champions League qualification. This is dependent on winning these extra games. However, only Liverpool and Man City have earned more points at home this season than the Gunners (26 – W8 D2 L2), who drew 0-0 here with struggling Burnley prior to exorcising their Brentford demons. The latter, however, bringing up win number six in their last eight league outings (D1 L1).

Key Stat: Arsenal have lost only one of their last ten home league games against Wolves (W5 D4) and, after beating their Thursday night opponents 1-0 at Molineux earlier this month, can complete a first league double since 2010-11.

Wolves – Top-four pursuit no longer far-fetched?

In this season’s reverse encounter at Molineux, Arsenal secured a scruffy 1-0 win that they wildly celebrated at the final whistle, much to the chagrin of Wolves captain Conor Coady and his team-mates. That defeat also stands as the only loss since the middle of December for Wanderers (W6 D1 L1), who can proudly boast of having earned more points across their last eight Premier League games than any other team.

So there isn’t any lack of motivation for Wolves ahead of this rescheduled fixture, with the added incentive of knowing a repeat of last season’s 2-1 victory at the Emirates will see them climb above the Gunners in the race for Europe. Their push is aided by the joint second-best defence in the league (18 conceded in 23 games) which has contributed to them winning their last four away games, three of them to nil.

Key Stat: When scoring at least once this season, Wolves remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season, winning 12 of the 13 games in which they scored in.

Arsenal Vs Wolves Betting Advice

Just a quarter (6/24) of Wolves Premier League matches this term produced three or more goals, with more than half seeing two or fewer. Among them was Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Molineux earlier in the month, a game that was hard-fought, scrappy and tempestuous. And with so much at stake between the teams currently sixth and seventh, we can expect a similarly tense encounter at the Emirates.

Arsenal Vs Wolves – Key Facts:

  • Although Wolves did beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates last term, it marked their first away victory in their last ten league visits (D4 L5).
  • Arsenal come into the game having lost once in their last eight league games (W6 D1 L1), which is an identical record over the same period to that of Wolves.
  • Wolves, who have won their last four away league games, have visited three of the current top seven sides (Man City, Man Utd & Spurs) and conceded only once (W2 L1).

Wolves would emerge from last season’s corresponding fixture 2-1 victors, though, and will be confident of a repeat after winning their last four away league games whilst conceding only once. This includes trips to Man Utd and Tottenham, which they won to nil. However, not many teams score away to Arsenal this season (six of twelve) and even fewer have won (two). So if Under 2.5 is short enough, the draw is an option.
