Onto the Championship, and Aston Villa will be keen to extend their four match unbeaten run in the English second tier on Saturday afternoon when they play host to bottom half outfit Millwall at Villa Park.
It’s taken a while, but finally Steve Bruce’s squad seems to be gelling together and the results are starting to roll in at the west midlands club with The Villains recording three wins and a draw in their last four outings in the Championship.
Wins over QPR, Sunderland and Ipswich Town along with a point away at Leeds United have helped lift Villa up into the play-off pack, and they’ll be looking to consolidate their position with a win over Millwall. The home side have registered four wins from their last five on home turf amidst an overall record of 6-3-1 15/8. Villa possess one of the strongest midfields in the Championship, and leading goalscorer Adomah has notched 10 goals already this season.
Visitors Millwall sit in the bottom half of the Championship in 17th place but manager Neil Harris won’t be too disappointed with his side’s efforts so far in the second tier following last season’s promotion from League One, as consolidation is the buzz-word around the New Den this season.
The large majority of The Lions’ success so far this season has been achieved on home turf, while away from home, Millwall are one of only four teams in the division yet to record an away win so afr this term.
An away record of 0-5-5 5/10 may be fine when facing teams around them in the bottom half of the division (and they’ve done enough so far to suggest they’ll avoid relegation this season already), but a trip to play-off candidates Aston Villa might just be out of reach for them at this stage.
