Aston Villa recorded a resounding local derby win over Championship league leaders, Wolves, on the weekend to make it three league wins on the trot for Steve Bruce’s men, and they’ll no doubt be looking for more of the same when they play host to a struggling QPR outfit at Villa Park tonight.
Wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland and Wolves have kept Aston Villa in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot, and they’ve done it in style as well as they’ve scored 11 goals in their last three matches as the west midlands club look to turn the screw here this evening.
Villa have suffered just one defeat at home throughout this season to date amidst an impressive overall record of 11-6-1 35/15 along with winning five of their last six too. The bigger picture sees Villa unbeaten in their last ten on home turf, and tonight’s match should make it 11. Former Bristol City man, Albert Adomah, has been the inspiration behind Villa’s success to date.
QPR sit in 16th place in the Championship, but just when you think the club’s patience with manager, Ian Holloway, is starting to wear out, The R’s record a much needed win, and this was certainly the case on Saturday when they saw off poor Sunderland 1-0 at Loftus Road following back-to-back defeats to Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.
The board at QPR seem reluctant to make a move to replace Holloway who is in his second spell as manager of the London club, but having registered just two away wins all season and losing four of their last five on their travels, they may reconsider holloway’s position in the summer.
An away record of 2-5-10 14/27 is extremely disappointing, but while QPR continue to pick up wins at home and remain safely away from relegation danger, the status quo is likely to remain at Loftus Road for the time being.
