It’s a top five clash in Italy this weekend as leaders Juventus travel to Atalanta. Both of these clubs are in Champions League action next week but their first priority is picking up three points from this one.

Atalanta Preview – Can Atalanta get back to winning ways in Serie A against the current leaders and champions?

This is shaping up to be massive week in the context of Atalanta’s season. In addition to hosting Juventus in the league on Saturday, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men also face face Dinamo Zagreb in what is a must win Champions League group stage clash. Ordinarily, playing against the champions may not be seen as a game they would be targeting or expecting points, but Atalanta’s recent poor results have put more significance on this encounter. Since the astonishing 7-1 win at home to Udinese at the end of October they have not managed to win any of their next three matches. A point away to Napoli is never a bad result of course but losing at home to Cagliari, despite that opponent performing so well, is disappointing. As was a goalless draw away to lowly Sampdoria.

Those results would have made it a long two weeks over the international break but it will also have freshened the squad up for two massive games. A win in this one would set them up perfectly for their European exploits a few days later.

Juventus Preview – Will Juve find the three points which would exert further pressure on second place Inter?

It’s not been pretty. It’s not been anything like the style of football that Napoli produced under Maurizo Sarri. And it’s not been without it’s drama. That’s probably a fair assessment of Juventus’ season so far but in spite of that the champions continue to set the pace at the top of Serie A. Sarri’s men are still unbeaten and hold a one point lead over a much improved Inter, who appear to be the only team capable of challenging them. However, they are riding their luck somewhat with performances less than impressive. Nine of Juventus’ 10 wins in the league have been by a margin of a single goal. The only exception to that is a 2-0 success at home to SPAL.

There are no prizes for guessing who the drama has surrounded, either. The winning goals in Juve”s last two wins (2-1 in Moscow and 1-0 at home to Milan) have come after Cristiano Ronaldo has been subbed off. Ronaldo stormed out the stadium after the second of those substitutions but is likely to start in this one. He comes into the game on the back of another productive international break with Portugal where he scored four goals in two games.

Key-Facts – Atalanta vs Juventus

  • Atalanta have been somewhat stuttering of late with just one win in their last five league games, dropping out the top four as a result
  • Juve continue to find ways of winning despite not playing anywhere near their best and hold top spot by a point
  • Juventus have only won once of their last five visits to Atalanta and were soundly beaten here in the Coppa Italia last season

Atalanta vs Juventus Betting Advice

Juventus certainly don’t look forward to this fixture having won only one of the previous five meetings in Bergamo. Their last visit here ended in a comprehensive 3-0 defeat as Atalanta knocked them out of the Coppa Italia en route to the final.
Atalanta continue to be a better side on their travels than they do at home. Their record so far this season reads two wins and two defeats from five home matches with a total of 23 goals. Juventus have not given much away on their travels conceding only three goals and dropping four points from a possible 18. Four of the last five meetings between these two in the league have ended with a share of the points. A draw may not be what both are hoping for but neither would they be overly disappointed with it.
