Preview: In the previous round, Juventus replaced Atalanta in the Serie A top four as the two sides continue to tread in opposite directions. It was the latter, though, who emerged victorious from their two recent league meetings, including a narrow victory in Turin this season, leaving Sunday’s clash delicately poised.

Atalanta – Le Dea not got going in 2022?

The last time the club finished outside the Champions League places was in 2017-18, and while they are only a couple points shy of the top four coming into this weekend, their recent form will be of huge concern. Defeat last time out to Cagliari was a real shocker, succumbing at home to a team languishing fourth from bottom. That a third winless league outing in succession, having won one of the last six (D3 L2).

Le Dea haven’t won in Bergamo since late November, picking up one point from the last nine on offer at Gewiss Stadium. Their record at this ground hasn’t been up to standard all season long though (W3 D4 L4). And if confidence wasn’t already at a low ebb, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side were eliminated from the Coppa Italia on Thursday after a last-gasp 3-2 defeat here to the ten men of Fiorentina.

Key Stat: So often free-scoring, Atalanta are suddenly finding goals elusive in Serie A, netting no more than one goal in five of the past six league games.

Juventus – Bianconeri on a revenge mission?

The pieces are gradually falling into place for Massimiliano Allegri. The Juventus boss endured a slow start to the season upon returning to the club with whom he won five consecutive league titles. On Sunday, however, he takes his in-form charges to the home of the last side to have beaten his Bianconeri outfit in Serie A: a 1-0 loss to Atalanta in Turin on 27 November preceding a ten-match unbeaten spell (W7 D3).

Juventus are unbeaten in 14 in all competitions, though, following Thursday’s dramatic 2-1 win against Sassuolo in the Coppa Italian last eight. In Serie A they are up to fourth, two points clear of Sunday’s opponents. Moreover, they haven’t lost an away league game since the end of October, winning four of six subsequent road outings, scoring in every away fixture prior to the recent goalless draw at AC Milan.

Key Stat: During their current ten-game unbeaten league run, there were six games whereby Juventus scored exactly two goals, winning 2-0 each time.

Atalanta Vs Juventus Betting Advice

Gian Piero Gasperini has created many wonderful memories in Bergamo as he closes in on six years as manager with the club. Among them will be the 1-0 victories in Turin and Bergamo the last two times Atalanta faced off against Juventus in Serie A. Both felt historic, the club having previously gone so long without a home or away win over their rivals from Turin. However, it seems that momentum has subsided.

Atalanta Vs Juventus – Key Facts:

  • After going two decades without a win over Juventus in Serie A, Atalanta are seeking to win their third successive league meeting. Winning both encounters 1-0, including last season’s corresponding fixture at Gewiss Stadium.
  • Current form might suggest a momentum switch, however, with Juventus unbeaten in 10 in Serie A (W7 D3) and Atalanta winning one of their last six (D3 L2).
  • And while Atalanta continue to toil at home this season (W3 D4 L4), Juventus are ticking along nicely on their travels, currently unbeaten in six and W6 D4 L2 for the season.

It is one win in six league games for Atalanta ahead of Sunday’s crucial meeting with Juventus, who leapfrogged their opponents with a seventh victory in their last ten Serie A outings (D3) last time. The sides also endured contrasting fortunes in the cup in midweek. Late goals seeing Atalanta exit as Juve progressed. All things considered then, Juventus are a solid selection to compound a miserable period for the home side.
