Monday night also sees the conclusion of the opening weekend in the Spanish top flight, and my next pick features Athletic Bilbao taking on Leganes with further betting tips available at the San Mamés Barria ground.
If last season is anything to go by, this could well be an early relegation battle between these two teams, with Athletic Bilbao finishing just one league place above Leganes thanks to a superior goal difference.
The start of this new season though has seen a good start by Athletic Bilbao as they’ve won five of their six pre-season matches, and having won the last encounter on home turf against Leganes 2-0, the hosts will be in reasonably confident mood ahead of this clash.
Onto Leganes, and they managed just two wins from their last nine matches of last season’s La Liga season which were victories gained over Celta Vigo and Real Betis, while their record and performances away from home left a lot to be desired.
The visitors ended the season with a disappointing away record of 3-3-13 15/32 as they finished up just one league place above the relegation zone, although they did possess a comfortable 14 point margin ahead of Deportivo la Coruna.
However, they’ll definitely need to improve upon their results away from home as they ended the last campaign with a miserable seven-match losing streak, and indeed, were without a win from their last 15 matches on their travels.
As mentioned, they lost their last visit to Bilbao but my betting tips advise backing the hosts by giving the quarter-ball handicap as it’s the first game of the season.
