Atletico Madrid appear to be bowing out of this year’s Champions League following the heavy 3-0 defeat away to Real Madrid in the first leg, and although they hold home advantage at their Estadio Vicente Calderón in this second leg, it’s a very tall order indeed for the hosts to score 4 goals tonight without conceding.
Atletico Madrid hold no fears against their crosstown rivals, and even though they lost heavily last week, they’ll be going all out for early goals on Wednesday night. The likes of attacking personnel Griezmann (16 goals) and Gameiro (12 goals) up front for the hosts will always provide hope, but this could be a bridge too far.
Nine wins from their last ten matches at home in the Champions League though should keep Atletico Madrid interested here in this second leg. Juanfran has been ruled out, so Hernandez looks likely to fill in again at right-back which could spell further trouble with Ronaldo looking to exploit.
Real Madrid registered a very useful 3-0 win in the first leg but not even they could have predicted they’d be holding a three-goal advantage ahead of the second leg, given the recent historical battles between these city rivals in recent years.
Real have won their last four matches in all competitions on the trot, and the ominous factor for Atletico is that the visitors have scored a total of 15 goals during this four game phase with the obvious and usual suspects, Ronaldo, Benzema and Isco getting amongst the goals.
Real Madrid will be playing their natural game here, and so we’re almost certain to see further goals in this second leg.
