Australia Prediction

Australia lie second in Group B with 3 points to their name and three points behind group leaders Jordan after the leaders handed Australia a surprise 1-0 defeat in the opening match of the group.

Australia have since bounced back with a convincing 3-0 win over joint bottom nation Palestine, and Graham Arnold’s boys will be eyeing off another precious three points on Tuesday night when they play the other bottom team, Syria who have also gained just the 1 point so far in this tournament.

After a largely disappointing World Cup, Australia’s overall results have been pretty encouraging; their subsequent six matches in all competitions (including international friendlies) has seen the Socceroos pick up four wins with victories against Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman and Palestine along with a 1-1 draw with South Korea.

Although they started this Asian Cup campaign with a loss, goals from MacLaren, Mabil and Giannou helped steady the ship with a 3-0 win in their last match, and Arnold is likely to stick with the same side here.

Key-Facts – Australia v Syria

  • This will be only the third meeting between these two teams
  • Australia are undefeated in the previous two encounters against Syria
  • Syria have lost 3 of their 5 matches in the Asian Cup

Syria Prediction

As mentioned earlier in the article, Syria have gained just the one point so far from their opening two group matches and sit joint bottom of Group B with Palestine ahead of this difficult encounter with Australia at the Sheikh Khalifa International Stadium on Tuesday night.

Syria and Palestine played out a dull and dour 0-0 draw in their first group match which was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Group B leaders Jordan who have emerged as favourites to progress as winners of the group into the next phase.

Syria’s results prior to the Asian Cup have been mixed as they’ve recorded wins against Bahrain, Kuwait and Yemen but have also been handed defeats by Kyrgyzstan, China and the aforementioned loss to Jordan.

Of their five matches played to date in this tournament, Syria have managed just one win against Saudi Arabia back in 2011 but have lost three of their subsequent four matches at this level.

Betting Tips Verdict

Australia received a timely boost with their 3-0 win over Palestine and should have enough quality to see them over the line against Syria here.
