England’s slim hopes of winning back the Ashes have been demolished in a very short space of time.

They have been outplayed in all three Test matches and another batting collapse in the second innings of the Third Test saw the Ashes as a contest come to an end.

It’s now all about trying to regain a bit of pride for the weary tourists. But Australia are unlikely to let up in their quest of earning a 5-0 drubbing in the series.

Australia Preview – Can the Aussies make it 4-0

The Ashes series moves on to Sydney for the 4th Test which starts on January 4th, 2022.

Australia are rampant at the moment and their confidence looks to be right through the roof.

That’s understandably so with an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series.

In the Third Test in Melbourne, their bowlers once again ripped through a tame England batting attack.

Australia won that Third Test by an innings and change.

It has been a mismatch on all fronts so far and a win for Australia in the 4th Test is at a quote of 6/5 in cricket betting* (odds recorded 23:03 GMT, January 2nd, 2022 at Sportingbet).

Australia have now remained undefeated in their last thirteen home Test matches against England, winning all but one of those.

It is a four-match winning home run that they are on against this opponent.

Those have all been dominant wins as well.

Interestingly as a nod towards a potential cricket props bet, Australia have lost the toss in six of their last nine home Test Matches.

With Australia steaming along, the 5-0 correct score in the Series for Ashes Cricket betting is at a quote of 2/1* (odds recorded 23:03 GMT, January 2nd, 2022 at Sportingbet).

Our betting prediction:

Australia won’t have Travis Head available for the Fourth Test, which is a blow for the hosts.

Head has had a tremendous series with the bat, averaging 62 including a century. He has been their top-scoring batsman in the series.

Second is David Warner who is 2/1 to be Australia’s Top Batsman* (odds recorded 23:03 GMT, January 2nd, 2022 at Sportingbet).

Australia have won three of their last four Test matches against England in Sydney.

It’s been back to back wins for them in such fixtures.

On the most recent occasion in Sydney, Australia won by a massive innings and 123 runs in 2018

England Preview – Can England fight back?

It has been a demoralising campaign for England who have at times been the orchestrators of their own downfall.

Time and time again their openers have failed to make any kind of impact.

Batting collapses have plagued them, as has terrible fielding and team selection has been far from ideal.

Do they have a chance of bouncing back?

Not according to the bookies who have England pegged as 9/1 underdogs in Ashes Cricket betting for the 4th Test* (odds recorded 23:03 GMT, January 2nd, 2022 at Sportingbet).

It’s worth letting that sink in for a moment. Those are phenomenally huge underdog odds.

No batting back up

England don’t have the squad to really change things for the positive. Not with the bat.

Zak Crawley, who had averaged 11 runs in Tests during 2021 was brought in to bolster the batting lineup for the 3rd Test.

He tallied 17 runs across his two innings with fellow opener Haseeb Hameed faring worse with just seven.

One positive for England was their bowlers at least got after the Australian batting lineup in the match.

England have been handed a masterclass in this Series, the third Ashes series for Captain Joe Root in which he has failed to land the urn.

Root is the only one coming away with the Tour with credibility.

He is the top batsman in the entire series so far.

He is such an overwhelming market favourite in the England Top Batsman market, that second favourite Dawid Malan is a 5/1 punt* (odds recorded 23:03 GMT, January 2nd, 2022 at Sportingbet).

Malan has been the other key man for England with the bat. Aside from that, there has really been nothing to write home about.

Australia vs England Betting Advice

Starting in the 2006/07 Ashes Series England have lost 20 of their last 25 Test Matches in Australia (W3 D2).

That’s a terrible record and it’s worth remembering that this was on the back of a 3-1 away defeat in India in their previous away Tour.

England are a lot way short of the top nations and the Australia 5-0 correct score series bet is at 2/1* (odds recorded 23:03 GMT, January 2nd, 2022 at Sportingbet).

Key Facts – Australia vs England Betting Tip

  • Australia are W12 D1 in their last thirteen home Tests against England
  • Australia have bowled England out for less than 200 in three of six innings
  • England have lost 7 of 8 Tests in Australia under Joe Root’s captaincy

With Joe Root at the helm, they have lost 7 of 8 Test matches played in Australia

With Head not participating for Australia, the David Warner Top Australian Batsman for the match at 2/1 has appeal* (odds recorded 23:03 GMT, January 2nd, 2022 at Sportingbet).

The Australians have the Ashes in the bag. This is the first match of the series where they haven’t been odds-on favourite.

But even with the series won and changes to their line up, they aren’t going to let England off lightly.
