Avai have shown signs of a recovery in recent weeks as they’ve lost just once in their last five matches in the Brazilian top flight, but this was a heavy 4-1 loss at home to Coritiba, and they now host the league leaders, Corinthians, at their Estádio Aderbal Ramos da Silva on Wednesday night.
Despite this recent upturn in form, Avai still remain in the bottom four relegation places even though they’ve registered wins over sixth placed Botafogo and second placed Gremio in recent weeks.

Nevertheless, Corinthians still occupy top spot in the Serie A with an eight point cushion over second placed Gremio ahead of tonight’s action, and with the visitors still remaining unbeaten so far in this campaign, it’s far too early to press the panic button right now!
Corinthians also possess a strong away record of 5-1-0 10/2 which could well see further improvement this evening, and with joint leading goalscorer in Serie A, Jo (9 goals) up front, Corinthians look in good shape for this clash.
