Ayr United – Can Ayr repeat their feat of last time and make it back to back derby wins?

The appointment of Lee Bullen was something of a left-field appointment for Ayr but it appears to have been a shrewd one. Had the club stuck by Jim Duffy then it would be unlikely they would be in their current position of sixth. Ayr approach the final derby of the campaign having won three of their last four and are now six points clear of the relegation playoff spot and a further two ahead of bottom place Dunfermilne.

There are still eight games to go so they still need to pick up more points but their current trajectory is promising and any result here would be a significant boost.

Ayr’s recent run of good form started with the come from behind victory against Killie last month. In a game which was rearranged from the festive period, Bullen’s men showed tremendous character to get the three points having been a goal down early on. They have since turned in further impressive performances to beat both Inverness and Raith Rovers.
All of those wins have been on the road so the biggest concern here is that they are playing at home. Their last win at Somerset Park was at the beginning of January which was Bullen’s first match in charge. They have taken only one point from their following three.

Kilmarnock Preview – Will Killie avoid another upset in this fixture to edge ahead in title race?

Killie have had to sack their manager and go all out with bringing in Derek McInnes as the man to avoid any disasters and ensure a return to the Scottish Premiership at the first time of asking. The season as a whole has not went to plan but this is a chance for them to go back top for the first time this year. Killie sit a point behind leaders Arbroath but courtesy of playing first this weekend can put pressure on their rivals.

Since losing to Ayr last month, Killie have responded very well taking 10 points from their next four and they know they need to keep that run going to achieve their objective.

McInnes is beginning to find a winning style at long lost and it’s also noticeable that it is bringing with it clean sheets, something they had struggled with – it’s now three in a row.

At the other end of the pitch the arrival of Kyle Lafferty has brought the goals many thought. He has five in six games and 13 in 15 league appearances in total for the Rugby Park club.

Ayr United vs Kilmarnock Betting Advice

This will complete the set of Ayrshire derbies and it is Kilmarnock who hold the edge despite losing the most recent. When under the charge of Tommy Wright, Killie defeat Ayr on the opening weekend of the season and followed that up with a hard fought win at this venue back in October. It’s likely they are going to be tested in this one, though, with Ayr showing a blend of quality and resolve in recent victories over three of the current top five.

Key Facts –  Ayr United vs Kilmarnock Betting Tip

  • Ayr are looking for a fourth win in five games as they bid to move further away from the bottom
  • Eight of Kilmarnock’s last nine away games have had two or fewer goals in them
  • Killie have won two this season’s derby but Ayr took the spoils last time out with a 2-1 victory

The once concern for Ayr is that poor home form. In terms of a selection in this game then a low-scoring affair looks like being the way to go. In addition to Killie’s record on their road as noted above, seven of Ayr’s last nine home games have also went under 2.5 goals. Take that to click once again.
