The new F1 season gets underway on the weekend with the opening race at the Bahrain Grand Prix to come.

Lewis Hamilton has won the last three editions for this particular race.

After the disappointment of the conclusion of last season, the Mercedes driver would love to get off to a winning start in this campaign.

But with so many technical changes made to the cars for this new season to try and promote more competitive racing, that outcome may be up in the air.

2022 Bahrain Grand Prix F1 Betting Preview

It is hard to really know where any of the teams stand in terms of competitiveness ahead of the new season.

We need to see it all in action.

There have been many technical changes to the cars.

The upshot is that it should be easier for cars to follow others, giving rise to more overtaking opportunities.

Teams have taken radically different approaches to the designs of the new cars within the technical outlines.

It usually takes a few races to fully get a picture of where things are at. But equally, all drivers will be hoping to get in a strong, competitive race to make an early statement.

2022 Bahrain Grand Prix F1 Betting Favourite

Max Verstappen is the 2/1 favourite in Bahrain F1 Grand Prix betting for 2022* (odds recorded 17:42 GMT on March 18th, 2022 at Betfair).

Verstappen in his Red Bull was pushing hard for a win last year but had to settle for second place to Hamilton.

The Dutch driver has never won in Bahrain but lines up as the favourite.

He went from the front of the grid last season. Practice on Friday went well for him.

Max Verstappen is 5/4 to lock down Pole Position in Bahrain Grand Prix betting* (odds recorded 17:42 GMT on March 18th, 2022 at Betfair).

Other main contenders Bahrain Grand Prix Odds

LEWIS HAMILTON who has won the last three editions of the Bahrain Grand Prix, taking his tally in the race to five wins, is at 10/3 to add another* (odds recorded 17:42 GMT on March 18th, 2022 at Betfair).

He seemed a little disillusioned at the end of last season and hasn’t been overly happy with the new Mercedes in pre-season testing.

New Mercedes teammate GEORGE RUSSELL is at 10/1 to find his maiden Grand Prix win* (odds recorded 17:42 GMT on March 18th, 2022 at Betfair).

Ferrari look as if they are going to be a lot more competitive this season and therefore CHARLES LECLERC could be an interesting selection at 9/2* (odds recorded 17:42 GMT on March 18th, 2022 at Betfair).

He has the speed and was fourth in qualifying for last year’s edition of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Britain’s Lando Norris who qualified in 7th last year and ended up in fourth place in his McLaren is a 25/1 punt* (odds recorded 17:42 GMT on March 18th, 2022 at Betfair).

2021 Bahrain Grand Prix Review

Last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix also started the F1 season, when the Australian Grand Prix was wiped out.

It was a thrilling night race and immediately there was a big duel between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

Verstappen had gone from pole but in a flurry of pit stops was left chasing Lewis Hamilton for much of the race.

There was a lot of controversy about Hamilton exceeding track limits and towards the end of the race, Verstappen had the upper hand.

He got past the Mercedes driver on lap 51 but was ordered to hand back the lead to Hamilton because Verstappen had gone off the track by going off the track.

Hamilton hung on and saw the race out for the victory.

Bahrain Grand Prix Betting Advice

Last year’s race was such a closely fought duel between Hamilton and Verstappen that it set the tone for the season.

There is really little to go on ahead of this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix, except that Hamilton believes that Mercedes are struggling.

On the evidence of the early practice, it may be exactly that way.

The general perception is that Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull are going to be fairly evenly matched in this campaign.

The sensible option may be rolling with the hot ticket of F1 right now, Max Verstappen at 2/1* (odds recorded 17:42 GMT on March 18th, 2022 at Betfair).

He has to be in a good place after his maiden F1 Drivers’ Championship last season and has sounded reasonably happy with the Red Bull in testing.
