Barcelona are top of the league courtesy of a better goal difference and they will be looking to add to that when facing a Mallorca team who are just one point and position outside the relegation zone.

Barcelona Preview – Can Barca build on last week’s victory to make it four wins in a row and maintain top spot?
Just as it looked as though Barcelona were going to fall a couple of points behind Real Madrid at the top of the table, up pops Lionel Messi to score a wonderful goal to defeat Atletico Madrid 1-0 away from home. If Barca go on to retain their title then we could be looking back at that goal and win as being the turning point. That many sound strange considering they would still have been well in contention but the manner of Barca’s performances have been very underwhelming. Ernesto Valverde has come in for a lot of criticism as a result so he would have been hugely relieved to get such an important victory. Especially as it came on the back of a good 3-1 win against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Valverde and Messi will be looking at this game as an opportunity to continue their better form. And to try and rack up some goals in the process. That’s all that is separating them with Real Madrid at the moment ahead of their meeting in the middle of this month.
Mallorca Preview – Yet to take a point from any of their six away games so far, can Mallorca pull off a remarkable upset?
It’s the first time playing in La Liga for six years so Mallorca were always going to be looking forward to whatever challenges came their way. Now 15 games into the season and it’s looking like their ambition will be to stay in the league. Mallorca sit fourth bottom and just a point outside the relegation zone. That’s no real surprise and Vincente Moreno would have been preparing for this sort of campaign. His team have had some real highlights as well, with the biggest being the 1-0 win over Real Madrid. That game was at home where they have picked up all their points so far. It’s been a dire record on their travels with six straight losses. In spite of losing all their away games they will no doubt relish the opportunity of playing in the Nou Camp for the first time since 2013.
Mallorca’s poor away form should come as no surprise. Even in Segunda they found it difficult to pick up wins on the road. Indeed, in 2019 Mallorca have won just two away games in 23 games. It’s hardly the sort of form that would inspire any confidence they can get much from their trip to Barcelona.
