Football – Europe – Champions League Betting Tips

Tuesday night also brings us action from the Champions League as the group stages kick-off this evening with a mouthwatering clash between Barcelona and PSV at the Camp Nou in Group B. Read on for our betting tips for this match…

Barcelona have made a cracking start to their new domestic top flight season as the hosts currently sit top of La Liga with a two-point lead ahead of second placed Real Madrid.

Barca will be desperate to tip the balance of power in their favour in this campaign, and with their arch-nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo now plying his trade in Serie A for Juventus, it could be Barcelona’s season to shine both domestically and on the European stage.

Tonight’s hosts have won all four of their La Liga matches with wins over Deportivo Alaves, Real Valladolid, Huesca and Real Sociedad, while previous form on home turf in the Champions League have seen Barcelona win their last five on the trot, which includes wins over Juventus, Chelsea and Roma.

A formidable midfield consisting of Rakitic, Coutinho, Busquets and Vidal is surpassed only by Barcelona’s fearsome attacking trio of Messi (4 goals), Suarez and Dembele (3 goals apiece).

Incidentally, 13 of Barcelona’s last 24 matches at home at this level have seen both teams score and result over 2.5 goals.

Dutch giants, PSV will face a tough test in their opening match in Group B as they face Spanish legends Barcelona, but they too come into this important encounter on the back of some impressive results as they qualified for the group stages via a play-off against Belarus champions, BATE.

PSV overcame the Belarusian outfit by securing a 6-2 win on aggregate which consisted of a 3-2 win away from home in the 1st leg, and then a resounding 3-0 win at home in the 2nd leg to book their place in the financially lucrative group stage of this competition.

On the domestic front, PSV have registered five wins on the trot as they’ve come out of the blocks in explosive fashion following Eredivisie wins over Utrecht, Fortuna Sittard, PEC Zwolle, Willem II and Den Haag – the latter two matches resulted in 6-1 and 7-0 wins for tonight’s visitors.

The Dutch side are therefore very capable of finding the back of the net with the likes of forward trio Lozano and Bergwijn (4 goals apiece) along with former Newcastle United striker de Jong (3 goals).

This might be the best time for PSV to catch Barcelona, and so my betting tips suggest backing both teams to score and result over 2.5 goals at great odds.
