Preview: The top two in Group G are locked in with Barcelona and Juventus left vying for top spot on the final matchday. The Spanish side came out on top – and impressively so – when the sides met in Italy on Matchday 2, when a combination of VAR and a sprinkle of Catalan class secured the latter their 2-0 victory.

Barcelona Preview – Well on top in recent head-to-head?

The best way to put an embarrassing defeat behind you is to win the very next game, and that is exactly what Ronaldo Koeman and Barcelona (W5) will attempt to do at the Camp Nou in their final fixture of this season’s Champions League group stage. With five victories garnered from five outings in Group G, the Catalans are already assured of a spot in the last-sixteen, but could yet do so as winners of their section.

That aforementioned defeat, coming at the hands of newly promoted Cadiz on Saturday, has left Barca reeling in seventh place in La Liga, sitting 12 points adrift of early pacesetters Atletico Madrid, and contemplating their worst start to a league season in more than three decades. It is crisis time for their Dutch manager, whose team now embark on a favourable run comprising four successive home fixtures.

First up to the Camp Nou is Juventus. The last time Barcelona were beaten by their Italian counterparts was April 2017; a 3-0 scoreline in Turin. Since then, though, the Spaniards have recorded two wins in four meetings, all in the Champions League, and were comfortably the better side on Matchday 2 when the sides reconvened inside Juventus Stadium. Goals from Dembele and Messi wrapping up a 2-0 success.

Juventus Preview – Ronaldo impossible to keep out of the side?

The Old Lady are bidding for a tenth UEFA Champions League group stage victory in the last eleven, with the exception to the rule being Matchday 2’s encounter with Barcelona when the Italian side were unable to extract anything from home advantage in a 2-0 loss. A game that will forever be remembered for Alvaro Morata’s VAR hat-trick,the Spanish international seeing all three efforts that night ruled out.

Only a win in Spain will give Juventus (W4 L1) any chance of usurping Barcelona in the group. Even then, Juve must do so by three goals or more or via any two-goal margin that isn’t 2-0. A seemingly insurmountable task for a side without a win across four previous meetings (D2 L2) with the 26-time champions of Spain. Worse still, they have managed no goal in the last 395 minutes of head-to-head action.

There is also a possibility Andre Pirlo settles for second in Group G, opting instead to rest one or two with a view to reining in Serie A leaders AC Milan over the coming weeks. One man unlikely to miss out, though, is Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese doubtlessly keen to add to his all-time record of 132 competitions goals, despite failing to net in five previous Champions League appearances versus Barcelona.

Barcelona Vs Juventus Betting Advice

All that remains to be decided in the group is which of these two illustrious clubs progresses as winners of Group G. However, with neither enjoying serene campaigns domestically – Barcelona trailing the leaders in Spain by 12 points while Juventus sit five back from AC Milan in Italy – how much importance either coach places on this final fixture won’t truly be known until we catch a glimpse of the line-ups.

Barcelona Vs Juventus – Key Facts:

  • With five wins from five in Group G, Barcelona can become just the eighth team in Champions League history to win all six matches in the group stage.
  • A 2-0 loss at home to Barcelona on Matchday 2 remains the sole occasion Juventus have failed to win in their past ten Champions League group stage matches.
  • Since a 3-0 win in Italy in April 2017, Juventus have gone four Champions League games without winning against Barcelona, who were victorious twice in this spell.

Assuming the strongest XI is named by both sides, it might be worthwhile taking a chance on the team at the better price who so happen to boast the competition’s all-time leading goalscorer, who will doubtless be hungry to add to that tally at the home of his once arch nemesis. That team being Juventus, who are unbeaten on their travels so far this season (W3 D4) having scored at least once in all seven of these matches.
