It’s the third meeting in the last month between Barcelona and Sevilla with the home team having to overturn a two goal deficit from the first leg if they wish progress to the final.

Barcelona Preview – Can Barca repeat their weekend win in their attempt to stay in the Copa del Rey?

Considering Barcelona sit second in La Liga and five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, it would be naive to suggest that if they failed to overturn their first leg defeat against Sevilla that their season is over but there’s no doubt that the Copa del Rey is seen as being their most realistic chance of silverware this season. They have trailed in the league all season and have played a game more than the leaders.

And when you consider Barca also trail PSG 4-1 following the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, then there is added pressure on Ronald Koeman and his players coming into this game.

Koeman will take huge confidence from his team’s 2-0 win away to Sevilla in La Liga at the weekend. Coming between the home and away legs of this semi-final tie was always going to be interesting. Goals from Ousmane Dembele and Leo Messi not only keeps them in the race for the title, but also gives them the encouragement they were looking for ahead of this return game.
Barcelona have an history in this competition with 30 successes (more than any other club) and have reached the final in six of the last seven years – winning four of those.

Sevilla Preview – Will Sevilla find the result they need to reach their third final in five years?

Sevilla were the form team in Spain approaching the first leg at the beginning of February so it was no real surprise to see them defeat Barca and bring an advantage to the Nou Camp with them. That was one of nine straight victories in all competitions, a run brought to an end with a 3-2 defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Although they suffered another defeat at the weekend, Julen Lopetegui’s men are comfortable in the top four with a six point lead over Real Sociedad and the cushion of having a game in hand over that rival as well.

Sevilla’s route to this stage has seen them defeat lower league opposition in Ciudad de Lucena, Linares Deportivo, Leganes (after extra-time) and Almeria. Ironically, their most comfortable win was at home to Valencia when winning 3-0. Sevilla are also yet to concede a goal in this year’s competition which will boost their hopes as they prepare for this game.

Like their opponents, Sevilla have recent experience of reaching the final. They have done so in 2016 and 2018. Unfortunately, they have been on the receiving end of two defeats against Barcelona.

Barcelona vs Sevilla Betting Advice

This will be the fourth (and most likely final) meeting between these two teams this season. The record stands at one win each and one draw. Crucially for Sevilla, they have the lead in this game and they know that if they can find an away goal then their opponents will need four goals to progress. That is the benefit of keeping a clean sheet in their home leg and it places even more emphasis on Barcelona to be controlled in their approach to overturning this tie.

Key Facts – Barcelona vs Sevilla Betting Tip

  • No club has won the Copa del Rey more than Barcelona with 30 triumphs in their history
  • Sevilla’s last success in this competition was in 2010, defeating Atletico Madrid in the final
  • The visitors travel following a 2-0 victory in the first leg, with away goals counting should the scores be level at full time

The winners of this tie will face either Athletic Bilbao or Levante in the final. Barcelona will feel like they can do this but their defensive record is a concern. The clean sheet against Elche last month is the only time they have achieved that in their last eight home matches. Considering Sevilla have scored in 13 of their last 14 away games, it’s difficult to look beyond both teams to score in this one.
