Barnsley and Cardiff City meet at Oakwell in the EFL Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Tykes are in the bottom three, while the Bluebirds are still in with a shout of a play-off place, which makes this clash a huge game for both sides. Can Cardiff return to South Wales with all three points?

Barnsley Preview – Can the Tykes secure a fourth win in five?

Gerhard Struber’s Barnsley are starting to show signs of fight, winning three of their last four. Before last weekend’s loss to Reading at the Madejski Stadium, the Tykes had secured consecutive Championship victories over Fulham, Middlesbrough and Hull City.

Despite their recent pick up in results, Barnsley remain in the bottom three, five points away from safety. The Tykes are winning games, but so are the likes of Wigan Athletic and Luton Town. It’s been a tough first season back in the second tier following promotion from EFL League One, with Barnsley losing half of their 36 matches up until now.

Our betting prediction:

Barnsley have not been easy to beat at Oakwell in recent months. Since three successive home defeats from August to September, the Yorkshire club have only lost three of 13 on their own patch. After last weekend’s loss at Reading halted their momentum, Can Struber’s side get back to winning ways at Oakwell at the weekend?

Cardiff City Preview – Will the Welsh side get back on track with three points in South Yorkshire?

Cardiff City’s promotion hopes have been dealt a big blow after the Bluebirds have taken just two points from the last 12 on offer. Back-to-back wins over Luton Town and Huddersfield Town put them in the mix, but Neil Harris’ men have failed to build on those away victories.

Last weekend, though, Cardiff did come from two goals down to draw 2-2 with fellow promotion hopefuls Brentford at the Cardiff City Stadium. City were two down within 21 minutes, but the Welsh side hit back thanks to first-half goals from Junior Hoilett and Joe Ralls.

The Welsh outfit have struggled for away wins this season, picking up just four from 18 games. However, all four of those league victories away from the Cardiff City Stadium have come since Harris arrived in South Wales. Three points could be huge for the Bluebirds on Saturday as they look for a top six finish.

Barnsley vs Cardiff City Betting Advice

Barnsley have taken nine points from their last four games, but the Tykes are still very much in trouble in the battle for survival. After failing to win any of their last four, Cardiff will be eager to take maximum points at Oakwell.

Key Facts – Barnsley vs Cardiff City Betting Tip

  • Barnsley have won three of their previous four in the Championship
  • All four of Cardiff’s away wins have come since Harris arrived
  • Only Hull City have picked up fewer home points than Barnsley this season

These two teams played out a five-goal thriller in the Welsh capital back in December. The Tykes led twice, but Lee Tomlin’s injury-time effort won the points for Cardiff.

The Bluebirds have a good recent record over Barnsley, winning each of the last three meetings. The Tykes last beat the Welsh team back in December 2016, edging an enthralling seven-goal game at the Cardiff City Stadium.

I fancy there to be more drama between these two clubs on Saturday. Take a punt on Cardiff to win and both teams to score, which you can get at 9/2.
