The Champions League action continues on Tuesday night and it’s advantage BATE Borisov ahead of this second leg against Qarabag as my betting tips continue here.
BATE secured what could be a vital 1-0 win away in Azerbaijan against Qarabag in last week’s first leg, and they now return to their Borisov Arena where they’ll be keen to continue their unbeaten sequence this season.
On the domestic scene, BATE sit top of the Belarus Premier League by a comfortable seven-point margin ahead of second placed Dinamo Minsk, and the hosts are still unbeaten on home turf this season.
BATE reached the third qualifying round after beating Finnish club, HJK 2-1 on aggregate, and they’re now just 90 minutes away from another appearance in the group stages of the Champions League.
Onto Qarabag, and the visitors appear to have blown their chance of making it through to the group stages of this competition following last week’s 1-0 defeat at home in the first leg. That was Qarabag’s first defeat in four matches of the Champions League as they’d previously registered wins against Slovenian outfit Olimpija and Albanian side, Kukesi which also included draws against the same teams too.
However, it’s just two wins from their last 12 Champions League matches overall, while away from home they’ve recorded three wins from their last 11 matches. The successes came against Samtredia, Sheriff Tiraspol and Olimpija, but these teams aren’t in the same category as BATE.
Recent defeats at Copenhagen, Chelsea and Roma suggest a trip to BATE could be a bridge too far for the Azerbaijan club.
