BATE Prediction – Can BATE keep winning momentum?

BATE head into this important 1st leg of their 1st qualifying round in the Champions League against Piast Gliwice on the back of 3 wins on the trot.

A 5-2 cup win away at Sputnik was followed up with back-to-back wins in the Belarus Premier League over Vitebsk 3-0 and Dinamo Minsk 2-1.

This means BATE have scored 10 goals in their last 3 matches overall, while they’ve put together a 5-match unbeaten run in recent weeks.

Indeed, BATE have lost just 1 of their last 10 matches overall in all competitions which was only a 2-0 defeat to Jelgava in a friendly back in early June.

Aside from that friendly loss, BATE have won their last 5 competitive matches on the trot on home turf at their Borisov Arena and look hard to stop here too.

Last season, BATE fell at the final hurdle in the Champions League as they were beaten 6-2 on aggregate by Dutch champions, PSV in the play-offs.

Piast Gliwice Prediction – Can Piast Gliwice make a good start?

Unlike their hosts on Wednesday night, Piast Gliwice haven’t started their domestic campaign yet as the Ekstraklasa finished up in mid-April.

The visitors have had to make do with 3 club friendlies since the top flight season ended, which saw Piast Gliwice finish in 3rd place at the end of the regular season.

Since then, they’ve gained back-to-back draws with Sered and Jastrzebie, both in 2-2 draws, along with a crushing 7-1 romp over Miedz Legnica.

Whilst the latter result will have provided a welcome boost to morale, they’ll be facing a very tough challenge on Wednesday night.

Piast Gliwice bring an impressive 13-match unbeaten run into this 1st qualifying round of the Champions League though, and they’ll be confident of remaining in this tie.

However, this will be Piast Gliwice’s first ever appearance in the Champions League and it’s a big step up from domestic level.

Having lost 4 of their last 12 away matches on the road in all competitions, this may be a tough trip for the Polish club tonight.
