Sunday’s big west country derby match sees Bristol Bears looking to continue a rich run of form. They head out to the Recreation Ground to face Bath, who have also found some very strong league footings lately. This clash has extra importance on Sunday as they are both in the scrap for a top-four finish.

Bears on the charge
The Bears have charged their way into a top-four finish contention. They closed out round 11 in third place as they secured their third straight league win.
Bristol squeezed past Worcester 13-10 last weekend at Ashton Gate, having been leading 10-0 at the break.
But a win’s a win and it added on to their recent successes against Gloucester and Northampton. The last time, incidentally, that the Bristol Bears won four straight league matches was back in the 2006/07 season.
Will they get the win on the weekend as they face their west country rivals? Their recent win out at Northampton in round 10 was their second road success of this campaign.
The other was when they caused a massive upset by beating Exeter at Sandy Park in round 4.
Bristol have only suffered the one loss in their last four games against Bath in the Premiership. That was at Twickenham in April last year in “The Clash”.
The last time that the Bears left the Rec with a victory was in November 2006.
Bath can do enough to defend territory at the Rec
So Bath will be defending a good home record at the Recreation Ground against the Bears. They are carrying some great form as well, having lost just one of their last six Premiership fixtures.
That was a defeat at Gloucester back on January 4th.
Remarkably the only home game that Bath have lost in the last twelve months in the Premiership was against Saracens last November.
That’s how formidable they are at the Rec. Looking at some of the stars, things balance out. The Bears have outscored Bath in the league this season, but Bath’s defensive record is better.

Bath are carrying with them a W7 L4 record for the season, while that of Bristol’s is W6 D1 L4. With the bonus points thrown into the mix, it leaves Bristol one point ahead of Bath in the battle for a top-four finish. But this could be Bath’s perfect moment to strike back in the race.
Bath vs Bristol Betting Advice
Bath have such a good home record in the Premiership, at least they have over the last twelve months, that they have to be backed to win this west country duel.
Key Facts – Bath vs Bristol Betting Tip
- Bath trail Bristol by one point only in the top five
- Bath have lost one league home game in the last 12 months
- Bristol have won their last three games
One defeat in their last six is all that they have suffered and while they are taking on a very confident Bristol side on Sunday, the home win still looks favourite. It’s all down to that crucial home advantage.
