Premiership rugby returns on Friday night with this clash between Bath and Wasps from the Recreation Ground.

Bath could really use a lift as they have claimed just one win in their last six completed Premiership matches now.

This then becomes a tough home game for them at the Rec as they face a Wasps side who are flying along at the moment.

Bath Preview – Can Bath pick themselves up?

Bath are on a W2 L3 record this season in the Premiership, but only one of those have come through a completed match.

They claimed a win over Worcester in Round 3, and the other maximum points came from a cancelled game against London Irish.

That’s one victory only then that Bath have physically recorded in their last six Premiership fixtures, rolling back into last season.

Their home form has gone as well having lost back to back games there.

One was in the league against Newcastle and the other was against Scarlets in the European Champions Cup.

In this season’s slightly disrupted campaign, Bath have not found their attacking groove at all.

They are averaging under 20 points per game.

Last weekend they went to Welford Road to face Leicester Tigers and suffered a 36-31 defeat.

That was a better offensive output from them in that one, but they still were beaten by a team who weren’t in any great form either.

Bath are the 11/8 underdogs for this home fixture on Friday night* (odds taken 2029 GMT, Thursday 7th January).

Our betting prediction:
Wasps 1-7 winning margin
5/2

This will then be only the second home game of the season in the Premiership for Bath this season.

The other ended in that 12-19 shock defeat against the newly promoted Newcastle.

For rugby betting, we would expect something of a tight handicap as Bath are not at the races right now.

A Bath +3 is at 10/11 going into this one*(odds taken 2029 GMT, Thursday 7th January).

In last season’s corresponding fixture, which was played in August last year, Bath suffered a four-point margin defeat in a 23-27 loss against Wasps.

Wasps Preview – Will Wasps keep their winning streak going?

It has been a run of four straight wins from Wasps in all competitions this season, so they are flying.

They are heading to the Rec on Friday night as the 8/13 odds-on favourites* (odds taken 2029 GMT, Thursday 7th January).

Last weekend they produced a fantastic display to crush reigning Premiership champions Exeter.

It was a resounding 34-5 win that Wasps produced in that one, stopping what was looking like a runaway Exeter team.

That was the third win of the season for Wasps (L2) which will have made a few punters sit up and take notice.

They do have away form to consider as well, strong away form, at that.

The only loss that they have suffered away from home in any competition since February last year happened in a league fixture at Gloucester in late November.

Wasps recorded a league double of Bath last season.

Wasps do have form at the Recreation Ground as well, adding to the reason why they are favourites.

They have won 5 of their last 7 visits to Bath in all competitions so they are looking in pretty good shape.

There has only been one change to the starting fifteen from last weekend as well, so the continuity is there.

Wasps are averaging almost 25 points per league fixture this season after that big win over Exeter.

But not only that, they are one of only three sides now to have not conceded double figures in tries against.

Bath vs Wasps Betting Advice

We have to side with the away win happening in this one. Wasps have a decent record at the Rec and won there well last season.

Given that they are steaming along at the moment and will be full of confidence after hammering Exeter, the Wasps win looks viable.

There’s not enough in the handicap market to get excited about.

A Wasps 1-7 winning margin looks a good pick at 5/2 instead* (odds taken 2029 GMT, Thursday 7th January).

Key Facts – Bath vs Wasps Betting Tip

  • Bath lost their one home game so far this season against Newcastle
  • Wasps have won their last four games in all competitions
  • Wasps did the double over Bath last season

Bath have been giving up tries this season and with their front row not at full strength still, they may get picked off.

There has been struggles with forward momentum from this season as well.

Their failure to beat a struggling Leciseter last side last weekend sums it up for us.

The away win for Wasps it is at 8/13* (odds taken 2029 GMT, Thursday 7th January).
