It’s the final day of the season in Germany and the title is still up for grabs. Bayern go into the weekend as big favourites to retain their title as they only need a draw against Eintracht Frankfurt who are chasing a top four finish.

Bayern Munich Preview

Niko Kovac has not enjoyed a stellar season in his maiden campaign as manager of Bayern, but he is two games away from landing a double which would at least put some gloss on it. Bayern have stuttered and staggered their way both domestically and in Europe, being knocked out the Champions League at the round of 16 stage by Liverpool in a pretty dismal way. With Borussia Dortmund setting the pace at the top of the Bundesliga for much of the season it begun to heap pressure on Kovac and his future in charge. There has been some improvement since the turn of the year and it has seen them return to the top of the league and on track for a seventh successive Bundesliga title, ahead of their German Cup final against RB Leipzig seven days later. It was against that opponent where Bayern could have clinched the title already but managed just a draw last weekend when requiring all three points. Kovac’s future may not depend on what happens in the next two games but his situation could only be helped if his team can get the results they need to land both trophies and cement their place at the top of German football. It will also be the last couple of games for an umber of veterans including Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Bayern Munich to win both halves

Eintracht Frankfurt Preview

A month ago it was looking as though Frankfurt were on course for one of their most successful ever seasons having reached the semi-final of the Europa League and placed in the top four, looing set for Champions League qualification. Since beating Benfica in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final it’s all begun to unravel, however. Adi Hutter’s men have not won a game since then and whilst narrowly missing out on a European final having been beaten on penalties, it’s their league form which has really suffered. Three defeats in their last five and no wins since the beginning of April has seen Frankfurt fall out the top four and are now requiring a dramatic turnaround to be playing Champions League football next season. They will have to beat the champions-elect and hope that Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach both get beat in their respective games – if that happens then top four will be theirs, but it does all seem a bit improbable. It’s been a great campaign for them on the whole but it does look as though it’s going to end up on a slightly sour note.

Key-Facts – Bayern Munich v Eintracht Frankfurt

  • Bayern need a point to ensure their seventh straight Bundesliga title
  • Frankfurt have been excellent throughout the season and still have faint hopes of a top four finish but their form has tailed off of late
  • Eight of Bayern’s last 12 wins over Frankfurt have included three or more goals

Bayern Munich v Eintracht Frankfurt Betting Advice

As if a potential title-winning fixture needed any extra edge to it, but this one has as Kovac is facing the team he left to join Bayern last summer. He led Frankfurt to the German Cup by defeating his current employers and will be hoping he can complete the circle in a way by getting the result he needs against his old team. Frankfurt will be in no mood to do any favours, of course, as they remain desperate for a win in an attempt to make the top four and also need a point to be guaranteed Europa League football next year.

Other than that excellent win for Frankfurt in last year’s cup final, Bayern have a brilliant recent record in this fixture. In actual fact, they have won 12 of their last 15 against Frankfurt, including both previous meetings this season by aggregate score of 8-0. Eight of those 12 wins have been where three or more goals have been scored in the game. Nine of their home wins this season have also been where the game has finished with over 2.5 goals and I expect them to make no mistake this weekend, winning in what could well be a very entertaining game.
