Bayern Munich Preview – Die Roten on revenge mission?

Expecting a stern examination in the German capital, what greeted them instead was a surprisingly timid performance from Union Berlin which allowed Bayern Munich (1st – W18 D4 L4, GF75 GA26) to seize complete control on proceedings. A 2-0 scoreline a fair reflection on a contest in which the record champions rather sauntered through their first competitive 90 minutes in more than two months, while the result leaves them four points clear atop the Bundesliga.

In truth, Bayern rarely threatened the Union goal until Robert Lewandowski netted his 26th league goal of 2019-20 from the penalty spot, moving him five clear in the race for the Golden Boot. The Polish striker netting in seven of his last eight league appearances. Hansi Flick’s team needn’t be at their free-flowing best when the defence is purring, though, with last Sunday marking the seventh clean sheet kept across the previous ten Matchdays.

More importantly, wins are flowing. That is now five in a row, scoring 17 in the process whilst conceding only once. Eleven wins from the last twelve Bundesliga games, dropping two of 36 available points in that time. Imperious form which should see them primed to avenge Matchday 10’s humiliating 5-1 defeat in the reverse fixture – the same scoreline Die Roten inflicted on Frankfurt in last season’s corresponding fixture in Munich, having won 14 of the last 15 meetings as hosts.

Eintracht Frankfurt Preview – Away woes dampen any appeal of an upset?

As football in the country finally returned last weekend, no side appeared more out of sync than Eintracht Frankfurt (13th – W8 D4 L13, GF39 GA44). Featuring in Saturday’s evening kick-off, at home to high-flying Monchengladbach, The Eagles found themselves 2-0 down after less than ten minutes on the clock. It was a deficit they never really threatened to overturn, ultimately succumbing to a flattering 3-1 defeat that could have been more on another day.

Having backed them to deliver last time out, to say I was left underwhelmed was an understatement. Now I fear the worst for Adi Hutter and his players, as next up is a trip to Munich to tackle the league’s most accomplished outfit. Frankfurt would, however, deliver unquestionably their most outstanding collective performance of the season to hammer Bayern 5-1 on Matchday 10. The problem now being that these teams have taken polar opposite paths ever since.

Frankfurt have since slumped to 13th in the table, after losing 10 of 15 (W3 D2 L10) including each of the last four, leaving them languishing just five points above the drop zone. Two of those aforementioned losses were heavy scorelines in Dortmund and Leverkusen, losing 4-0 to both. Which suggests a long evening awaits in Munich. Meanwhile, no team has collected fewer points (7) or scored less goals (11 in 12) away from home this season (W2 D1 L9).

Bayern Munich Vs Eintracht Frankfurt Betting Advice

Exceptional when these teams met at the Commerzbank-Arena in November, with Frankfurt destroying Bayern Munich to win 5-1, it would seem a similar outcome is nigh-on impossible for the visitors based on their alarming slump thereafter and horrendous away record. Add to that no win in Munich in the Bundesliga since 2000, losing 14 of 15 subsequent visits, and the signs are ominous.

Bayern Munich Vs Frankfurt Key Facts

  • Seven of Bayern Munich‘s thirteen home Bundesliga games this season featured a minimum of four match goals, claiming victory on six of these occasions.
  • Across their previous nine away league encounters this season, Frankfurt would record only one victory – a 2-1 success at Hoffenheim – whilst losing seven (W1 D1 L7).
  • Bayern Munich have been victorious as hosts in 14 of the last 15 league meetings, though did suffer an humiliating 5-1 scoreline in Frankfurt on Matchday 10 of this term.

At least two goals better for ten of their previous twelve opponents in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich should, on current form, make short shrift of the league’s worst travelling outfit this weekend. Bayern scored four or more on five occasions at the Allianz Arena so far this term, which, coupled with Frankfurt shipping precisely four away in Dortmund, Leverkusen and Monchengladbach, adds to the appeal of Bayern Over 3.5 Goals (11/8 Betway).
