Preview: There could be a party in Munich this weekend should Bayern Munich wrap up their ninth successive German championship. Looking to play the role of party poopers, though, will be Gladbach, the visitors who are enjoying some resurgent form and in urgent need of the points themselves at Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich – Champions-elect won’t wilt at second invitation?
Having spurned one opportunity to seal a ninth successive Bundesliga title, after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat away to a resurgent Mainz last time out, a refreshed and refocused Bayern Munich (W22 D5 L4) will be in determined mood to wrap up their 31st German league championship at the second time of asking on Saturday. That is unless their arch rivals haven’t already gift wrapped Hansi Flick’s side the title.
Should RB Leipzig fail to pick up maximum points in Dortmund earlier that same day, the formalities on another title heading to Bavaria will be completed prior to Bayern even kicking a ball. We have to assume any celebrations will be delayed until after the completion of this game, and while it clearly isn’t a must-win, they will want to atone for that humbling inside Opel Arena a fortnight ago.
Defeat in Mainz snapped an eight game unbeaten streak, comprising seven victories and a goalscoring average of nearly three per game. They are one of only two sides, however, along with Frankfurt, yet to lose a home fixture (W11 D4). Meanwhile just three of those wins weren’t by a margin of 2+ goals, notching four or more goals on eight occasions. Could the champions-in-waiting be about to cut loose?
Borussia Monchengladbach – Foals on the top-six charge?
The Foals (W12 D10 L9) signalled their intent in this competitive tussle for European places by delivering their biggest win of the campaign during the last round. A 5-0 rout of Arminia Bielefeld – having put the fixture at Borussia-Park to bed as early as the 18 minute, at which time they were already three goals to the good – keeping them in seventh, four points off Leverkusen and a Europa League berth.
We already know there is going to be a managerial switch over the summer, with current boss Marco Rose vacating the hot seat for Frankfurt’s Adi Hutter. The news seemed to have a paralysing effect on the team initially. From the end of January to the middle of March, Gladbach failed to win a single game (D2 L5). They have since found their second wind by winning four of the last six (D1 L1).
Key to their recent revival has been a surge in goalscoring exploits. Fresh from scoring five last time, Gladbach are averaging 3.5 goals across their past six league games, netting two or more in each. However, just one of their last seven Bundesliga victories came on the road. The Foals winning one of the last eight away fixtures (D4 L3), despite finding the back of the net on at least two occasions in five.

Bayern Munich Vs Borussia Monchengladbach Betting Advice
Hansi Flick could be celebrating back-to-back Bundesliga titles as Bayern Munich this weekend, departing for the German senior team in the summer having guided the record champions to their ninth successive league title. Victory at home to Gladbach, who are enjoying something of a revival in fortunes, would seal the deal although it is interesting to note they have only managed three wins in the past six home meetings.
Bayern Munich vs Borussia Monchengladbach – Key Facts:
- Gladbach came from 2-0 down to claim a 3-2 victory when these sides met at Borussia-Park in January. The Foals have also won two of the past six Bundesliga meetings in Munich (D1 L3).
- Bayern Munich have scored at least two goals in 13 of 15 Bundesliga home games during 2020/21, but only registered four clean sheets at Allianz Arena all season.
- Should Gladbach notch at least twice, it will be their seventh consecutive Bundesliga in which they’ve found the back of the opposing net two or more times.
Gladbach actually won this season’s reverse encounter, a 3-2 triumph at Borussia-Park in January, continuing a trend which has seen each of the last seven league meetings produced Over 2.5 Goals. Both teams scored in six, meanwhile. Bayern average more than three goals per home game this season, but only recorded four clean sheets. Whereas Gladbach are seeking to score two or more for the seventh league game running.
