A Gareth Bale hat-trick, featuring a last gap winner, condemned Belarus (W1 L3) to a third successive Group E defeat that leaves them second from bottom in this five team section – above only an Estonian side still searching for their first point. With Belgium conceding in both away qualifiers so far though, grabbing a consolation may prove the limit of Belarusian ambitions.

FIFA’s number one ranked side have breathing space atop Group E, after claiming back-to-back three-goal margin victories inside three days over Estonia (2-5) and the Czech Republic (3-0). The latter remain their nearest pursuers, now six points further back from a Belgian (W4 D1) team seeking to preserve a 25-game undefeated streak in World Cup qualifiers (D21 D4) since losing 2-0 to Estonia in October 2009.
Considering they racked up eight goals in an 8-0 mauling of this same opposition last March, there appears very little likelihood of their run being comprised in Kazan. That outing accounted for 40 per cent of their 20 qualifying goals so far, netting three or more in four of five outings and at least two more than any other European team. Meanwhile Romelu Lukaku is up to three goals during this international break.
