Robert Page’s Wales travel to Russia this weekend to play Belarus in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The game will be played behind closed doors in Kazan. The Dragons have taken three points from a possible six so far, so Wales will be looking for a win in this one. The Welsh are the clear favourites, but can the Belarusians cause an upset at the Central Stadium? We have the latest betting odds and tips.

Belarus Preview – Can the Belarusians cause an upset?

Belarus have taken three points from a possible nine so far. The White Wings kicked off their campaign with an impressive 4-2 win over Estonia at the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk back in March. However, a few days later, they were hammered 8-0 by Roberto Martinez’s Belgium in Leuven.

In midweek, Belarus lost again, but they did give a good account of themselves in Ostrava. They were the huge underdogs against Czech Republic, who impressed at UEFA Euro 2020, but the home side laboured to a 1-0 win.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score – No

Finishing in the top two of Group E will take some doing, but three points on Sunday would keep them well and truly in the hunt. Georgi Kondratiev’s boys are priced at 11/2 to get the win in Kazan.

Wales Preview – Dragons to leave Russia with a massive three points?

Robert Page’s Wales find themselves four points behind Czech Republic and seven points adrift of leaders Belgium. However, the Dragons have two games in hand on both. With the Belgians playing the Czechs on Sunday, three points for Wales would put them right back in the mix before next week’s home match against Estonia.

Despite taking the lead, Wales lost 3-1 to the Belgians in Den Dreef in their opening qualifying fixture. However, Page’s men edged past Czech Republic at the Cardiff City Stadium on matchday two, with Dan James netting the only goal of the game.

In truth, Wales should cruise past Belarus in Kazan. However, the Belarusians will take confidence from the narrow loss in midweek, and the Welsh will have to do a professional job in the Central Stadium.

Belarus vs Wales Betting Advice

These two met in an international friendly just two years ago, with Wales nicking a 1-0 victory at the Cardiff City Stadium – Dan James was the scorer that day, too. In 2002 World Cup qualifying, Belarus beat Wales 2-1 in their home game. However, the Dragons returned the favour with a 1-0 win at the Millennium Stadium, with John Hartson on target.

Key Facts – Belarus vs Wales Betting Tip

  • Wales have won the last two meetings
  • Belarus have lost their last two qualifiers, shipping nine and scoring none
  • This will be the first competitive game between the pair since 2001

Both teams are effectively on the road, so there will be no home advantage for Belarus, which could prove to be pivotal in this qualifier. Wales should see off the Belarusians, and we like the look of Page’s side to be winning at half time and full time at 6/4.

Apart from the 4-0 Euro 2020 Round of 16 defeat to Denmark in the summer, Wales have been incredibly resolute at the back in recent times. Take a punt on the Welsh to win to nil in Kazan on Sunday at 13/10.
