Continuing with Group G, current leaders, Besiktas have a great opportunity to make certain of qualifying for the knockout rounds when they take on beleaguered French champions, Monaco, at their Vodafone Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Turkish club hold a commanding five point lead over their nearest rivals in Group G, RB Leipzig ahead of match day four, and with home advantage here this evening, Besiktas look well set to add to their points tally and progress to the next stage of the Champions League.
Besiktas are one of only four clubs to maintain a 100% winning record to date in the competition, following wins over Porto 3-1 away, a 2-0 home win over RB Leipzig and a slightly surprising 2-1 win away at Monaco. Forwards Tosun and former Liverpool striker, Babel should cause problems here.
Visitors Monaco, who were pre-tournament favourites to win Group G, find themselves bottom of the group after the first three matches with just one point to their name after a poor start to their Champions League campaign.
A point away from home at RB Leipzig in a 1-1 saw the French club start brightly enough, but back-to-back defeats thereafter to Porto 3-0 at home and a 2-1 defeat at home to Besiktas now has them desperately scrambling for points in a bid to nick second spot, but perhaps more realistically, to grab third spot and enter the Europa League.
These two targets would normally be well within their grasp, but without their talismanic forward Falcao who is injured, they may have left it too late for any sort of european involvement after these group matches end.
