Pep Clotet’s Birmingham City and Danny Cowley’s Huddersfield Town square off for some midweek action in the EFL Championship on Wednesday evening. The Blues will be looking for their first victory at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium since beating play-off bound Nottingham Forest on February 1st.

Birmingham City Preview – Will the Blues secure first league win in eight?

Pep Clotet is leaving Birmingham City at the end of the season after a frustrating year in the Midlands. On their day, Birmingham are capable of beating anyone, especially at St Andrew’s, but there have been far too many off days for the Blues this term.

City are without a win since a Scott Hogan goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Barnsley at Oakwell on February 11th. Since then, Birmingham have drawn six and lost one of seven in the Championship. Clotet’s boys have certainly been hard to beat – losing only once in the league since New Year’s Day – but too many draws have hindered any kind of meaningful promotion challenge.

Our betting prediction:

Since returning to action from the enforced break, Birmingham have drawn with West Bromwich Albion and Hull City. Last weekend, the Blues came from behind twice to draw 3-3 with struggling Hull at St Andrew’s. Can they pick up a rare home win on Wednesday night?

Huddersfield Town Preview – Can the Terriers seal a vital victory on the road?

Danny Cowley’s Huddersfield Town moved into the bottom three of the Championship table after last weekend’s results. Since a thumping 4-0 home win over fellow relegation rivals Charlton Athletic, the Terriers have lost three on the spin, conceding seven and scoring just once.

Only Luton Town and Barnsley – who are both also in the bottom three – have picked up fewer away points than Huddersfield thus far. Town have amassed a mere 16 points on the road, losing 11 of 19. The Yorkshire club, who were in the Premier League last term, have won just one away league match since December.

With just seven games left to save their Championship lives, Huddersfield could really do with maximum points from this one. Ahead of this round of fixtures, Town are in the drop zone on goal difference. With the likes of Preston North End, Millwall and West Bromwich Albion still to come, these are worrying times for the suffering Terriers supporters.

Birmingham City vs Huddersfield Town Betting Advice

The reverse fixture at the John Smith’s Stadium ended in a 1-1 stalemate back in November. Fraizer Campbell’s 55th-minute strike put the home team a goal up, but Lukas Jutkiewicz levelled things up for the Blues with just 12 minutes to go.

Key Facts – Birmingham City vs Huddersfield Town Betting Tip

  • Birmingham are without a win in eight league and cup games, drawing six of their previous seven in the Championship
  • Huddersfield have lost each of their last three league matches
  • The Terriers slipped into the bottom three on goal difference after last weekend’s results

These two teams have been involved in several close battles in recent years. In fact, four of the last six Birmingham v Huddersfield meetings have ended in 1-1 draws. Not many teams have drawn as many as Birmingham have in this season’s Championship, and I fancy Huddersfield to battle to a draw at St Andrew’s on Wednesday. The 1-1 stalemate is nicely priced at 5/1.
