Two teams with Premier League aspirations clash at Ewood Park on Saturday, as Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers host Lee Johnson’s Bristol City. When the pair met at Ashton Gate a few months back, Rovers left with all three points. Can Blackburn do the double over the Robins this weekend?

Blackburn Rovers Preview – Rovers to strike back with a big three points?

Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers were uncharacteristically poor at Pride Park last Sunday, crashing to a heavy 3-0 defeat to Phillip Cocu’s Derby County. Rovers’ promotion hopes have been dealt a blow in recent weeks, as Blackburn have failed to win any of their last four (one loss, three draws).

Having said that, Mowbray’s troops have been incredibly hard to beat on their own patch in recent months. Last month’s 1-0 loss to Fulham remains Rovers’ only home defeat since losing 2-1 to Luton Town way back in September. Only five clubs have picked up more home points than the team from Lancashire up until now.

Our betting prediction:

The Blue and Whites will be desperate for all three points having not won since beating Charlton Athletic 2-0 at The Valley on February 15th. Blackburn are still in a good position in the table, sitting just three points away from sixth-place Preston North End ahead of this round of fixtures. The Lancashire club would leapfrog Bristol City with all three points at Ewood Park on Saturday.

Bristol City Preview – Another tough day at the office for the out-of-sorts Robins?

Bristol City have struggled at home this season. Despite sitting in seventh spot with nine matches to go, the Robins have mustered up a mere seven home league victories, losing six and drawing five of the other 11.

However, things have been much different on the road for City, who currently have the fourth best away record in the Championship. The current top two of West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United as well as high flying Nottingham Forest are the only sides to have accumulated more away points than the Robins. Overall, Lee Johnson’s troops have won eight, drawn five and lost six on the road.

Bristol City have hit a rough patch of form at just the wrong time, winning only one of their previous seven in the Championship. Since securing a 3-2 home win over Derby a month back, the Robins have lost three and drawn two of the following five. They have not won away from home since seeing off Queens Park Rangers at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium on February 1st. Can they get back on track with a win at the weekend?

Blackburn Rovers vs Bristol City Betting Advice

As we mentioned, Blackburn came out on top when the duo locked horns at Ashton Gate earlier in the season. Rovers struck early through Bradley Johnson, doubling their advantage late on thanks to an Adam Armstrong goal.

Key Facts – Blackburn Rovers vs Bristol City Betting Tip

  • Blackburn have been beaten on just three occasions at Ewood Park this season
  • Bristol City are without a win in five (three defeats, two draws)
  • Only three teams have picked up more away points than the Robins in this term’s Championship

Blackburn have been a tough nut to crack at Ewood Park, with just Charlton Athletic, Luton and Fulham winning on their patch in this season’s Championship. I’m tipping the hosts to get back to winning ways after last Sunday’s poor showing at Pride Park. The 2-0 Blackburn victory this Saturday is available at the tempting price of 8/1.
