There’s three points between Blackpool and Lincoln City in League One and they two teams clash on Friday evening. A win for the hosts would see them go level on points with second whilst three points for Rovers could take them above their opponents into the playoff zone.

Blackpool Preview – Can Simon Grayson’s men find win that would take them level on points second place Coventry?

It may be slightly ahead of schedule but the longer this season goes the more it seems Blackpool are genuine challengers for promotion. When Simon Grayson returned to the club in the summer he stated that he believed this is a club that belongs in the Championship. Now 10 games into their League One campaign, and the Tangerines are currently in sixth spot just three points behind second placed Coventry. They may have played more games than a few teams in and around them but it remains a very pleasing start and one that has restored a lot of positivity throughout the whole club. Grayson, who has won promotion from this division in a previous spell at the club, knows all too well that it’s still very early in the campaign, though.

Blackpool’s most recent game was a 1-1 draw away to Accrington Stanley. On paper it would appear to be a couple of points dropped considering Accrington are just outside the relegation zone. However, having trailed for so long before equalizing in added time they may well look back on it as a point gained. What may concern Grayson slightly is that it’s now just one win in seven games. He will be looking to Fridays game as the perfect opportunity to improve on that recent record.

Lincoln City Preview – Are Lincoln able to bounce back from heavy home defeat and get their first win in six games?

Lincoln City have been one of the biggest success stories in English football in recent years. Under the care of  the Cowley brothers, the Imps made their way through the lower leagues into the third tier of English football. Two consecutive promotions made other clubs sit up and take notice. Having rejected a few advancements, Danny and Nicky Cowley eventually left for pastures new earlier this months. Whilst they now focus on getting Huddersfield Town out of danger in the league above, Lincoln have turned to Michael Appleton to continue them on their journey. Appleton takes over a club who have done incredibly well of late but a team who are just beginning to struggle.

Saturday’s 6-0 defeat at home to Oxford United was the latest in a list of recent disappointments. Appleton never took charge of the team last week but he would have been concerned with how woeful his new charges were. It was their fifth defeat in seven league games and has seen them begin to tumble down the table. Promoted teams can often start very fast before a lull and the new manager will be hoping that’s all it is.

Key-Facts – Blackpool v Lincoln City

  • After a blistering start to the season things have tailed off for Blackpool recently, winning just once in their last eight league games
  • Lincoln have also struggled of late and lost heavily at home to Oxford – the first game of the post-Cowley era
  • Blackpool have kept one clean sheet at home this season whilst Lincoln have scored in all five away matches

Blackpool v Lincoln City Betting Advice

These two teams have both started the season very well before a period where they have just shown signs of struggling. That’s more accentuated for the visitors who have lost a number of games of late. And no more evident than last week’s humiliating home loss to Oxford. With it being Appleton’s first game in charge it will be about how they respond to that. The hosts don’t play again until a week on Monday.  They will be hoping to go into that extended break with an important win and put pressure on the teams above them.

Coincidentally, Appleton’s first game in charge of Lincoln comes against one of his former clubs. It was a really disappointing spell in charge of Blackpool and he will be looking for better tomorrow. Grayson’s men have kept just one clean sheet at home all season. Lincoln have scored in each of their five away games so far and both teams to score looks solid.
