Blackpool produced one of the shock results in League One during the week when they recorded a 2-0 win away at second placed Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium to hand Gary Bowyer’s boys a much needed three points.
The win at Wigan was only their second victory in 15 matches in the English third tier, but a welcome one nevertheless as it lifted The Seasiders away from immediate danger of dropping into the bottom four for the time being, although they’d like to put further daylight between themselves and the relegation zone as they’re four points above fourth from bottom AFC Wimbledon.
Blackpool’s home record has been dented by a sorry looking sequence of nine matches without a win at Bloomfield Road, and their record now stands at 5-5-5 22/23, but they did beat Peterborough United 1-0 away in the earlier fixture between these two sides back in November.
Peterborough United have dropped down to 10th place in League One following just one win from their last seven matches overall, with the one recent success being a 3-0 home win over Oldham Athletic, but defeats to MK Dons and Southend United, along with too many draws have hindered their hopes of a top six finish.
The Posh now find themselves five points adrift of sixth placed Bradford City before Saturday’s fixtures have been played, and a fairly ordinary away record which stands at 4-7-4 24/20 along with a three match run without a win on their travels, hasn’t helped much either.
Blackpool’s need for the points is perhaps greater, and the recent win over Wigan Athletic will have been a massive boost.
