Sporting will be hoping to find the win that would keep their four point lead at the top against a Boavista team who remain rooted at the bottom of the table.

Boavista Preview – Can Boavista find their first league win since defeating the other major club from the capital?

It’s been a dire season for Boavista thus far as they sit bottom of the league with just one win all season. Approaching the halfway stage of the campaign and they have just 11 points from 14 matches which sees them three points from safety. Considering their lack of victories they would probably expect to be further adrift so Jesualdo Ferreira (who only took over last month) will take some encouragement from that.

They have to find some positives from somewhere after their latest game which ended in a 3-1 loss away to Tondela. Somewhat surprisingly that was just their fifth defeat in the league so far with the majority of their games ending in draws.

Our betting prediction:

Their only victory this season, incredibly was a 3-0 win at home to the other major Lisbon-based club, Benfica. That was back on the 2nd of November so it’s been nearly four months since they gained three points. Boavista’s only other victory since then came in the cup away to lower league Vizela and even that was after extra-time.
Home goals have been really hard to come by for Boavista with only five in their six league games so far. It is the joint-lowest in the division and is an area they definitely have to be improving if they are to preserve their top-flight status.

Sporting CP Preview – Are leaders Sporting set to continue their excellent away form with another win?

It’s 19 years since Sporting were last crowned champions of Portugal. It may not yet be halfway but there’s no doubt this is one of their best chances since that success as they sit top of the table. Currently three points clear of their arch rivals Benfica (whom they have a game in hand over), Sporting are a further point clear of current champions Porto.

The job that Ruben Amorim has done cannot be understated, especially as he’s not even been in charge for a year.

Sporting are yet to taste defeat in the league this season with 11 wins and three draws. They have the best defensive record and have dropped just two points on their travels from seven games. It’s been a formidable start to the season and one which Amorim will know they have to continue with the two of the other big three on their tail.

Key to their success so far has been the form of Pedro Goncalves. The midfielder is in his first season at the club and top’s the league’s scoring charts with 12 strikers. His impact has been tremendous and much needed following the sale of Bruno Fernandes a year ago.

Boavista vs Sporting CP Betting Advice

It’s bottom versus top and to make this even more ominous for the home team, their record in this fixture is terrible. You have to go all the way back t0 2008 for the last time they defeated Sporting. That was a total of 14 matches ago and it’s a trend they will be desperate to overturn tomorrow as they bid to improve their chances of survival.

For Sporting it’s more of the same and attempt to take advantage of Benfica dropping points on Monday and stretch their lead over their city rivals.

Key Facts – Boavista vs Sporting CP Betting Tip

  • Boavista’s only league win this season came against Benfica in a thumping 3-0 home win
  • Sporting are unbeaten away from home in the league with 19 points from a possible 21
  • You have to go all the way back to 2008 for the last time Boavista won in this fixture

It’s never as easy as just going by league position and Boavista have drawn enough games to show they will be no pushover. However, with the form the visitors are in and their record in this fixture it’s hard to look beyond a Sporting win.
