Bodo/Glimt Preview – Can Bodo/Glimt make most of home advantage?

Despite slipping to two defeats out of their last three games overall, Thursday night’s hosts, Bodo/Glimt, will have been satisfied with their efforts in last week’s Matchday 1 clash away from home at Dutch giants, PSV, as the Norwegian outfit claimed what could prove to be a solid point by way of a 1-1 draw at the Philips Stadion.

Although Bodo/Glimt have also lost to Molde and Tromso in the Norwegian domestic top flight in recent weeks, the hosts have been fairly consistent overall as they have lost just three out of their last 14 matches in all competitions which includes eight wins within this period, so the hosts will fancy their chances of adding to their points tally in this upcoming clash.

Bodo/Glimt have had limited exposure on the European stage in the Europa League as the hosts have only played a total of eight ties overall but they have lost just twice so far (which were both away from home) along with picking up four wins along the way in previous campaigns against Levadia (home and away), Kauno Zalgiris and Zalgiris respectively.

Results on home soil have been even better as Bodo/Glimt have won three of their four home ties played to date, scoring a total of 12 goals in the process, so Bodo/Glimyt will be quietly confident of securing a result on Matchday 2.

Team news, and as a result of a knee injury, Bodo/Glimt will remain without key attacker Amahl Pellegrino, who has scored 23 goals and assisted six in 26 appearances this season across Eliteserien and Champions League qualifying, while striker, Victor Boniface left the club, so forward Runar Espejord will continue to spearhead Bodo/Glimt’s attack.

FC Zurich Preview – Can Zurich bounce back?

FC Zurich began their European journey this season in the early qualifying rounds of the Champions League but the Swiss outfit found themselves dumped out of the competition at an early stage by Azerbaijan side, Qarabag, in a high-scoring 5-4 defeat on aggregate, leaving the visitors to take their chances in the Europa League.

The Swiss outfit duly obliged by gaining wins during the qualifying rounds against Linfield 5-0 on aggregate and Scottish Premiership side, Hearts, by a 3-1 victory on aggregate to reach the group stage of this season’s competition but they faced a tough task in the shape of Premier League club, Arsenal, in last week’s group opener.

FC Zurich were a dealt a 2-1 loss on home soil at their Stadion Letzigrund by the north London club, so the visitors will be keen to set the record straight on Thursday evening in Norway but recent results have been against the Swiss visitors in recent times; four defeats on the trot will have done little for their confidence.

Losses to Basel, Lugano and Servette in the domestic Swiss Super League have been further compounded by last week’s loss to Arsenal, so Zurich look to have their work cut out on Thursday evening, if they’re to even gain a point.

The bigger picture shows FC Zurich have managed to win just three of their last 13 away ties in the Europa League whilst also being handed seven defeats as well, and this looks to be another tough fixture here.
