Bolivia Preview – Can Bolivia get off the mark?
Thursday’s hosts, Bolivia, have made a poor start to their World Cup qualifying campaign as they sit bottom of the group with just one point under their belts, courtesy of a 2-2 draw away from home at Paraguay back in November.
However, three defeats on the trot prior to that draw saw Bolivia suffer losses against Brazil 5-0, 2-1 at home to Argentina and a 3-2 loss at home to Ecuador, and although they’ve played a couple of warm-up games prior to the resumption of these World Cup qualifiers, Bolivia have struggled in these too.
Defeats away at Chile and Ecuador both by 2-1 margins will have done little for Bolivia’s confidence ahead of this fixture against Venezuela whom they’ve lost their last three meetings to, but goals could feature as each of the previous six meetings have all resulted in over 2.5 goals.
Venezuela Preview – Can Venezuela win back-to-back?
Venezuela had also made a losing start to their World Cup qualifying campaign as the visitors suffered three defeats on the trot in the opening rounds of group matches, losing to Colombia, Paraguay and Brazil respectively.
However, a 2-1 home win over Chile back in November handed Venezuela their first win of the campaign and they now head to La Paz to take on the basement dwellers, Bolivia, whom they’ve beaten in each of their last three meetings.
Venezuela have won just one of their last 14 World Cup qualifiers away from home though so backing the visitors for the straight win here looks fraught with danger but goals look likely here.
