Bologna Preview – Prime opportunity to secure rare success over Rossoneri?

Prior to earning a surprising 2-1 win in Naples against Napoli a week ago, Bologna (12th – W4 D4 L6, GF20 GA23) had only managed three wins all season. All were over sides either still in the relegation zone or hovering above it, beating Brescia (3-4), Sampdoria (2-1) and SPAL (1-0) which also meant the trend for winning by a single goal continued. True, the opposition were in a bad moment both on and off the field. Maintaining this momentum is key now for stricken manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, whose team return home seeking not only to improve upon a mixed record there this season of two wins, two draws and as many losses but also targeting a first win over AC Milan since 2016, when departing the San Siro with a 1-0 victory. Seven subsequent encounters have seen them avoid defeat only once (D1 L6), while it has been over eighteen years since they won this fixture in front of a home crowd (D4 L9 in the intervening meetings).

AC Milan Preview – Fruitful fixture to deliver another points haul?

Talk of Zlatan Ibrahimovic returning to the club appears to be gathering pace and has gone some way to serving as a distraction from important matters taking place out on the pitch, which, for some supporters, may even be a positive thing. It is momentum they can now carry into a fixture that has been very kind to them through the years.

Six of the last seven league meetings with Bologna would end in Rossoneri celebrations, not losing away to their upcoming opponents since 2002. If those are encouraging omens, their record away from home this season may not be. Three wins and four defeats, scoring more than one goal only once whilst restricting their opponents to no more than a solitary goal on five occasions. This may not be a thriller, therefore, although AC Milan would care less about that should another low scoring success similar to last week materialise.
