Bologna – Top-half aspirations fading as wins dry up?

It has been another comfortable Serie A campaign from ‘I Rossoblu’ who, boasting a 14-point cushion over the bottom three with five matches left to play, can look ahead to an eighth consecutive term in the top tier. However, any aspirations of achieving their second top-ten finish since returning to the division ahead of the 2015/16 season are rapidly diminishing with every winless outing.

The latest being Sunday’s 2-2 home draw with Udinese. A point they scarcely deserved on the balance of play, having clearly lost the xG battle (BOL 0.90 – 1.63 UDI), but one which extended their unbeaten run to four matches (W1 D3). That is one win in their past nine Serie A outings, though, leaving them marooned in mid-table, in 13th, and with seven points to make up on tenth-placed Sassuolo.

Key Stat: Atalanta are the only team to win away to Bologna since the start of February, with ‘I Rossoblu’ avoiding defeat in five of their six prior Serie A home games (W2 D3 L1).

Inter Milan Win To Nil

Inter Milan – Serie A holders closing in on successive titles?

Saturday evening’s 3-1 scoreline at San Siro against Jose Mourinho’s Roma was a lesson in efficiency from the Nerazzurri. Clinically dispatching their three goals from an xGF value of 1.47. 3-0 up long before the visitors had grabbed their consolation five minutes from time, it was another assured performance from a team currently unbeaten since the middle of February, winning the last five in a row – four of those ‘to nil’.

Perhaps the only criticism was that late concession, denying them a fifth successive clean sheet. In Serie A this season, nobody has shipped fewer goals than Simone Inzaghi’s side, conceding only three – and never more than one – in each of their last eight league matches. This stoic rearguard of theirs will be needed in midweek, though, for Inter have scored more than once in one of six previous road fixtures (W2 D4).

Key Stat: Seven of the nine away victories Inter Milan have managed in Serie A this season saw them prevail by a margin of at least two goals, while five came via ‘to nil’ scorelines.

Bologna Vs Inter Milan Betting Advice

There appears to be no stopping Inter Milan on their quest for a Serie A and Coppa Italia double. Simone Inzaghi has overseen five straight wins as Nerazzurri boss, four of those in the league while the other set up a tantalising cup final with Juventus, which is scheduled for the 11th of May. However, some dubious away form (W2 D4 across the last six said fixtures) could scupper their bid to return to the Serie A summit.

Bologna Vs Inter Milan – Key Facts:

  • Last September’s crushing 6-1 scoreline at San Siro marked a third successive head-to-head victory for Inter Milan, who are unbeaten as the visiting team since February 2002.
  • Inter have won on each of their last three visits to Bologna, doing so ‘to nil’ in all but one of these contests. No team in Serie A has conceded fewer than the Nerazzurri this season (26 goals in 33 games).
  • Bologna, though, come into Wednesday’s clash in reasonable shape. Unbeaten in four (W1 D3), ‘I Rossoblu’ would only lose one of their last six as a Serie A host (W2 D3 L1).

Victory in Emilia-Romagna ensures the destiny of the Serie A title stays in Nerazzurri hands. Their opponents are unlikely to roll out the red carpet, though. Bologna have lost just one of their last six as hosts. Nevertheless momentum is with Inzaghi’s men, seeking a sixth successive win in league and cup that would see them go top of the table. When they do prevail on their travels, often it is by a couple goals.
