High-flying Bolton Wanderers will be looking to record a sixth win on the trot in League One when they play host to second from bottom Chesterfield at the Macron Stadium, as confidence also runs high amongst the Bolton faithful.
Following relegation from the Championship at the end of last season, The Trotters have responded in fantastic fashion and they now hold one of the automatic promotion spots back up to the English second tier with a six-point lead over Fleetwood Town ahead of this weekend.
Bolton have racked up recent wins over the aforementioned Fleetwood Town as well as victories over Gillingham, Northampton Town, Oxford United and Shrewsbury Town which has helped transform Bolton into serious promotion contenders. Bolton’s home record stands at 12-5-3 32/16 and they’re unbeaten in their last five on home turf.
Visitors Chesterfield find themselves at the other end of the league table and fighting a serious battle against relegation following a run of five matches without a win, and indeed, The Spireites have managed to chalk up just one win from their last 13 outings.
This poor run of form has dropped them well and truly in the mire and they’re now 10 points adrift of Shrewsbury Town and the safety spot of 20th with a visit to promotion chasing Bolton Wanderers in front of them.
Chesterfield’s away record reads a very sorry looking 2-4-14 14/33 as goals have been hard to come by on their travels, with only Oldham Athletic (12) scoring fewer than them on the road to date.
With just three clean sheets on their travels to date, I’m expecting Chesterfield to struggle again this afternoon in what should be a straightforward win for Bolton.
