A vital relegation encounter is up next with fourth from bottom Bolton Wanderers taking on bottom club, Burton Albion, at the Macron Stadium with just two points separating the bottom four clubs ahead of this weekend’s action.
Bolton have lifted themselves out of the bottom three with some encouraging results in the past few weeks, particularly during October and November where The Trotters put together a seven match unbeaten run which included wins over Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.
However, five stalemates within this sequence has meant that Bolton have been unable to pull away from the relegation zone, and having suffered recent defeats to Wolves and Nottingham Forest (albeit away from home), they’re by no means out of the woods yet.
Visitors Burton Albion come into this important relegation battle on the back of three straight defeats to Sunderland, Derby County and Preston North End, while they’ve also now gone five matches without a win overall, and have won just once in their last 13.
Burton’s last success was a 1-0 win away at Millwall in early November but there’s been very little for The Brewers’ fans to cheer about this season, especially on the road where they’ve recorded stats of 1-4-5 3/15 to date.
An obvious lack of goals on their travels has been the main catalyst behind their struggles so far this season, and seven matches without scoring on the road doesn’t fill me with any confidence that they’ll get something from this encounter.
Despite the two recent setbacks for Bolton, I believe the hosts have enough to claim the spoils here.
