Football – England – National League Betting Tips

Wembley Stadium provides the stage for the biggest game of the non-league top flight season as the curtain comes down on the National League with Boreham Wood taking on Tranmere Rovers in a winners-takes-all play-off final.

It’s been a fantastic campaign for Hertfordshire outfit Boreham Wood as they finished in fourth place after confirming their play-off place with a last day of the season 3-1 home win over Guiseley, and they’ve built upon that momentum in the National League play-offs too.

As they finished the season below the top three, Boreham Wood have had to play two play-offs to reach the final, but they came through these with wins over Fylde (2-1 at home) and Sutton United (3-2 away), and they’re now within 90 minutes of creating footballing history and possible promotion up to the Football League for the first time in their existence.

Former Wycombe Wanderers and QPR midfielder, Andrade (21 goals), along with forwards Balanta (11 goals) and Ferrier (7 goals) look the most likely for Boreham Wood.

Reaching the play-offs in the National League would have been the minimum requirement for Tranmere Rovers boss, Micky Mellon, and his side have duly delivered upon that target as they finished the season runners-up behind title winners, Macclesfield Town.

However, Tranmere were a little way off the pace of The Silkmen as they ended up 10 points adrift, and they were made to work hard in their play-off semi-final against sixth placed Ebbsfleet United as they were held to a 2-2 draw at the end of 90 minutes.

Rovers eventually prevailed in extra-time to win 4-2 but it wasn’t a convincing performance, and along with losing their last two games of the season at home to Solihull Moors and Hartlepool United, the merseyside club are by no means guaranteed of success at Wembley.

However, there’s no doubting their attacking prowess with the likes of Cook (26 goals) and Norwood (22 goals) up front, and having previous Football League pedigree, Tranmere are the bookies’ favourites to win this final.

I just can’t rule out Boreham Wood though who are a stubborn outfit, and although Tranmere may well triumph in the end, I’ll back the underdogs with the handicap here who have nothing to lose.

Pick: Boreham Wood AH+0.75 @ 1.62 bet365 (odds taken at 22:58 GMT 10 May 2018)
