Borussia Monchengladbach are the surprise leaders of the Bundesliga but it’s a fiercely competitive top half with four points between themselves and their weekend opponents Dortmund, who sit eighth at the moment.

Borussia Dortmund Preview – Can Dortmund end a frustration run of three straight draws and close the cap on the current leaders?

If you had to summarise Dortmund’s season in one word then frustrating would be a very popular answer. This was seen as being the year that they could finally wrestle the title back from Bayern Munich. Lucien Favre’s men were close last year before falling away and the reason as to why that challenge ended was their inability to hold on to leads and keep clean sheets. On the evidence of what we’ve seen so far this season then they have not improved on those areas and it’s going to be their downfall once again. Dortmund had three successive 2-2 draws in the league heading into the international break – all games where they held a lead.

Due to those lost leads they have dropped to eighth in the table but are still only four points behind the leaders, whom they face tomorrow and have a chance to reduce that. It’s not all negative for Favre and his team, who are still one of the most threatening going forward. That attacking power is also going to be diluted though if they continue to be vulnerable in defence. The signing of Mats Hummels has not yet had the desired effect and they will tested again with the visit of a team who have talent all over the park.

Borussia Monchengladbach Preview – Are Gladbach set to prove their title credentials and make it five consecutive wins?

Marco Rose was touted as one of the most exciting coaches in European football and his arrival at Borussia Monchengladbach was seen as something of a coup for the club. The former RB Salzburg boss has been a breath of fresh air since returning to Germany and a strong start to the season was capped off by going top courtesy of 5-1 win last time out when at home to Augsburg. That was Gladbach’s fifth win of the season and their fourth consecutive victory since losing at home to RB Leipzig. It was after that game many felt that they would once again be seen as competing for fourth at best but they have responded terrifically well.

Rose will be well aware that it’s still extremely early and Saturday will represent their toughest test since losing at home to Leipzig. Playing away from home seems to suit this team, though, having won all four of their domestic road games including big victories at Nurnberg and Hoffenheim. If they can manage a result here – even if it’s not a win – then it would continue what has been a positive start and also give them confidence they can compete with the best of the Bundesliga. And that’s been one of their only failings over the last year or so.

Borussia Dortmund v Borussia Monchengladbach Betting Advice

This is always an attractive game as both clubs have a tradition of having a plethora of attacking talent, It’s a fixture which Dortmund have been dominant in however, winning the last eight games and have not lost at home to Gladbach for over five years. There’s an argument to be made that this is a different opponent and one that will be full of confidence from coming into the weekend top. Dortmund will look at this as being a great opportunity to not only get their first win in four league games but also lay down a marker that they are contenders for the title.

Dortmund virtually always scored and have failed to only twice since the start of the previous Bundesliga season. We know their defensive issues though and combining that with a Gladbach team who are free-scoring themselves. They have scored in 20 of their last 23 away games in the league and on four of their last five visits to Dortmund. Combining those trends make a Dortmund win with both teams scoring a sound selection.
